Martin, I've just moments ago, received my copy of World Builder. Three seconds after getting my grubs on it, I find I need help (a personal record even for me). So, I figured I'd go to the guru of gurus. When I try the install, I get "Detecting Video Adapter……..Can't recognize adapter that supports 32K colors or more". I am using the Imagine 128 card. The current driver I am using,(so that I can get the 16 million colors for Meshpaint), requires that I reboot before going to Windows or it will lock-up. Thinking that maybe I needed to reset from my 3DS Vibconfig., I did a cold boot. Same result. You seem to work with a few or more different systems, so I thought maybe you would have an asnwer. Thanks, Terry

Terry, >> "Detecting Video Adapter…..Can't recognize adapter that supports 32K colors or more".<< Digimation is probably a good bet to talk to with this. You should just be running dos only. Don't try to run this from Windows. It is possible you video card is not supported. What version of World Builder do you have? If you have 0.9 there might be relief in sight with more display support. If you are running 1.0, then I'm not sure – ask Digimation.

Martin, >> Don't try to run this from Windows. << I was just trying to give an example, of how my card stays in the mode set in 3DS when I exit it. I wasn't trying to run WB from Windows. I called Daivd, I was thinking they would all still be too busy with the Expo coming up, to have anyone manning the support lines. Yep, the Imagine 128 is not supported, ARGGGG! I was trying to stay ahead of the bleeding edge when I bought this new system, but not *that* far ahead. <g> I really built around my prediction that everything would go NT/Multithreaded. Now, all I have to do is wait for it to finally get there.<g> Anyway, David says I should have something I can use in a few weeks, with 256 colors. When the NT version arrives, the video card type should make no difference. Thanks Martin, Terry

Terry, >> Yep, the Imagine 128 is not supported, ARGGGG! << Arrggg! I try not to get too bleeding edge with video cards. The drivers always seem to lag behind the hardware by several months. When we go to NT, I'd still advise caution with new display cards, since the quality of Windows drivers has been pretty bad in some cases in first releases.

Martin, >> When we go NT, I'd still advise caution…<<< I hear ya. I'm losing track of all the things I'm waiting for updates, upgrades, bug fixes, drivers for, etc., etc. <g> Terry

>Yep, the Imagine 128 is not supported, ARGGGG! I was trying to stay ahead of the bleeding edge when I bought this new system, but not *that* far ahead.< I got one of the first Imagine 128 boards when they came out last October. The lack of drivers at the time forced me to sell it and get a #9GXE64Pro. It is an S3 based board and I have not had any problems with it. It works great in NT, 3DS, and Cadkey. Now that there are 3DS and NT drivers for the I128 it isn't so bad. I was looking to get a Matrox Millenium, but I think I learned my lesson with bleeding edge products. Matrox doesn't have a good reputation for drivers in my book, same with ATI. I'm happy with my #9 card.

Tim, >> I'm happy with my #9 card. << For this system, I think I'll just wait for everything to catch up with the 128. With render times getting to be what they are (with WB and all), I am toying with the idea of getting another dual system as a render server. We will be getting two more duals actually (listening Cameron?), but one will be used more for my wifes business mainly. On both though, I was wondering what video card to go for. I know the 128 is supposed to be the best/fastest, but is it worth the extra cost. I can *almost* get two Diamond Stealth 64's for the cost of the 128. Thanks, Terry

>I know the 128 is supposed to be the best/fastest, but is it worth the extra cost. I can *almost* get two Diamond Stealth 64's for the cost of the 128.< I have kept up with messages on video cards. Some people are having problems with the Stealth 64 that I don't have with my #9GXE64Pro, both are S3 964 cards. The GXE has been replaced by the #9 MotionFX cards which use the S3 968 chips. The Imagine 128 is kinda eccentric, sorta like those Firestorm 128/192 cards. I'd like to get the Matrox Millenium card if I needed one at this point. If you can wait there should be a bunch of cards coming toward Nov/Dec that shouldn't be a problem when MAX ships since they will use Windows NT drivers. That is if the cards have NT drivers.

Tim, Thanks for your opinions on the video cards. I will probably wait until Nov/Dec at least for the second 3DS unit. Actually, I'll probably wait for MAX, and see what the NT environment does for rendering speed. Thanks again, Terry
