#How's Russia doing?
6 messages in this thread
Aleksey-
Just wanted to say hi and ask you about Russia (I assume you are there and not
some other state).
How are things? Is the economy better? Are you and your friends working? The
news about the former Soviet Union has become scarce here. A friend of mine
went over there this summer to climb mountains and said things were not so
good.
Hope life is good for you. Drop me a note. Thanks.
Hi, Mark!

No. You guessed wrong.
Right now I seat in front of computer in West Hartford ,
preparing Sticky Mapping demo for Connecticut 3DS User Group.
About Russia:
Let me cover here only 3DS related part of my answer
(and if you are interested in my opinion about Russia in general,
let's dicsuss it via e-mail).
3DS future in Russia looks bright:
it is gaining practically total acceptance,
it is sold and supported by very knoledgable and stable company Steepler,
and it is used widely by big and small advertising and production companies.
My personal dream is to see course in 3DS included in the main curriculum
in Math Dept of Moscow University, replacing History of Communist Party.
I made several contacts with professors and friends – the most successfull
ones with Computational Math and Differential Geometry & Topology units.
Oleg Buyborodin's dissertation on the (Sticky et al) Mapping subject should
attract enough interest and give some boost to my attempts to bring 3DS to
MSU. (Still, I have no idea how to finance such a course).
That's about it,

Thanks Aleksey. Glad you're getting a chance to see the USA.
