Hell has anyone seen our SCALPEL MONSTER FLIC?
Any comments?
edwin
I thought it was pretty neat but what I would really like to see is an
animation with alot of irregular cuts (jagged shapes). The two animations that
I have scene all the cuts appear planar ( the dragon and the chevy).

OK ! No problem animation will follow!
soon on a cinema near you!

I've seen it and I own Scalpel. It's great for making linear cuts, but it would
be even better if you made it so it could do cookie-cutter type cutting. Just
having straight cuts is good, and it helps me a lot, but a larger cariety of
scalpel types would be a big bonus. Maybe for the upgrade?

Yes you can count on it!
We are in between a new version but we have to wait until MAXX is there . . .
But soon there are some small updates coming up!
And do not forget you are even able to do cookie cuts with this version of
scalpel (it needs a little work but it will do)
You just have to use SEPERATE and FILL and then rempve the remaining elements
you don't like! In this way i did a 5 plane cut into the house you can find
here on compuserve.
The method is to place more than one scalpel (in zig zag for example) and do
the cut just with SPERATE and then remove the elements you dont like. With
seperate scalpel will produce identical VERTEX at the cutting plane.
I hope this makes sense?

Thanks Edwin, but I've already been using that technique to make the
cookie-Cutter cutting. What I was refering to was non linear cuts, like sphere
shaped or curved cuts. Still an excellent program, keep me advised on upgrades.
Are they free or do we have to pay for any upgrades?
– Neil
The next upgrade will be free for all registered users.
But don't ask how and when you will receive it . ..
About your suggestion of spherical cuts . . . what you really mean is a boolean
and if yost didn't make it why should we??
What I want to say is that is really hard to do booleans with face models and
you need to be a little bit of a wizard. Our programmers are near to a wizard
but only near . . .
But time will come!
edwin
Thanks Edwin.
I just really find the Boolean engine in 3DS to be a bit limiting and it
crashes to often (of course I'm asking it to do ridiculous things). Hope to
hear from you about Scalpel upgrades.
– Neil
Does anyone bool?
who isn't happy with booleans in 3ds???
tell me !
edwin
I do a lot. I took me a bit to get it to work consitently, but now I can get
most booleans to work.
Has a lot to do with the normals of the meshes you intend to bool.
Unlike Chris, I find it has very little to do with normals. I do a lot of
organic stuff, so I have very complex shapes that need to be cut and merged.
3DS Booleans aren't bad, I just have to believe there's a better way do them.
Especially the subtractions. Scalpel helps, how's the program going? Have you
had a lot of response to it? I'm using it to make a new, breathtaking image
(sorry I can't be more precise, I'll upload some stills in the next few weeks).
I love finding new ways to use it. Maybe MAX Booleans will be cleaner.
– Neil
What should I Say?
Sure MAX Booleans will be better! But we all have to wait what max will
really do and what it won't do. . . .
But SCALPEL is still in progress… (Animation .. . )
have fun
