\_| |O /-/ _
\\ ____|/-/____ / \ _ A number of users have had some
\\ |/_/_/_/_/_/_| | | /:::\ difficulty getting through the
\\|____________|/ / \:::/ first tutorial in the AAS hardcopy
\\__|____|___| / | | on using of Clone Ink (the diver).
|_\\_________| | |/
\\|| \ __ / Now available in Library 2 is a
_||_ file called TUTOR1.ZIP.
/|___o|\
// || \\ It includes 5 BMP files you can view which
_// — \\_ show what the Clone Ink Properties dialogue
|_o| |_o| settings are, and the points on your image
|| || where you can pick to set Clone Ink source
|| || and to fade the diver into oblivion. It also
|| || offers some tips on the effects of Clone Ink
|| || with other tools. Hope this helps. It's a
\/ \/ powerful ink, well worth the time to learn.

Thanks for the upload. My findings:
1FWIW Is it me or does page 108 of the tutorial (Position options) call for
"Auto reset source not checked (OFF)" ?
2. For whatever reason my cloning with the polygon tool *will not* work the
first time you draw the polygon. It does however work the second time, but the
'clone section' is a bit random and seems to being sampled from anywhere in the
selected source, rather than always resemble closely the area originally
selected. Any tool settings buried deep in the anim.ini file that controls the
behavior of the polygon tool that need to be checked out?
3. Using the airbrush now works as advertised (Auto reset source option
responsible?)
How about the rest of you "students"?

yes. the documentation is incorrect. if Autoreset is not toggled, the image
origin is used throughout ink applications. you can verify this by opening
CHEETAH.BMP as a source image, making sure autoreset is off, and using a tool
with Clone Ink in the diver image. makes sense program-wise… just a glitch in
the docs.

nope. the symptoms you are getting were reported to tech support also… here's
the scope… the AutoReset function begins with the origin of the image the
first time the points are picked. once you've picked them, the delta is
calculated from your source point. therefore it takes two applications of the
polygon tool to see it. this behavior is also noted for rectangle, ellipse and
other boundary tools as well.
yes this is a hassle, but yes it works. check out TUTOR1.ZIP again if you need
to see how the source point location determines the application of the ink. and
again, i strongly advise that you use airbrush instead for better blending.
experimentation is crucial on this Ink, but lots of power at your pointer when
you get it down.
>> 3. Using the airbrush now works as advertised (Auto reset source option

autoreset positional option is strickly for Clone Ink. curious… what wasn't
airbrush doing before (without Clone Ink use)?
p.s. glad you've got it behaving.

Thanks for the clarifications. The Airbrush tool just wasn't working previously
with the clone ink and autoreset position >off<. It wors fine with color ink.
I'm close to finishing my review of Astudio and am liking the program *much*
more in the 1.0c version. If the WIN95 version improves on that, Adesk has
about a B+ rated product in my book. (version 1.0 might better have been let
stew a bit longer though). I'll send you a copy of the review when it's done
E-mail if you're interested.

yup. understandable.

please do, Al. i'd be very happy to read it. and again, thanks for your
patience on this.
