So Franklyn Wilson, the liquidator, tells me today there are now four
companies in the running for the remains of Commodore. He said the activity
had intensified in the last week. The creditors discussed it on Tuesday, and
seem to have given their assent to Wilson reaching a final agreement with one
of the four.
We all know that C=UK and CEL are among the four. Any thoughts out there about
who the other two might be? Wilson demurred.

Dan,
I spoke with Alex this morning. He repeated what is already known … CEI has
formally placed their bid with a deposit. The trustee has asked for additional
information with CEI has provided and, Alex says, CEI's bid is "higher and
better" than others and the trustee says CEI should know something definitive
"shortly".
In the meantime, we've got a conference tentatively scheduled with Alex for
next Thursday … more details after I get the details set with CEI's
communications/PR guy, Dave Defelici.

I spoke with Alex after you did. He seems to think he is the lead
contender at this point, that his bid is potentially higher, providing the
liquidator can deliver what is promised. According to Alex, the C=UK bid is
structured in a simpler way, bascially buying the company as is, without a
contengency for segments which can't be produced

Which is probably how any bid should be structured given the urgency everyone
should be feeling at this point…
There is very likely truth to the notion of new bidders. Others less
well-known to the Amiga community are interested and at least one has very
interesting plans should they win the auction process and get Amiga rights.
Surely it's unlikely at this late point that someone would suddenly come in
with new ideas. This sounds like a last-minute attempt to "up the bidding" to
me. Is that possible?

The 'other' party I've heard of in the bidding (and not publicized in the rumor
mills) is not a last minute attempt to 'up the ante' – he's genuinely
interested in the techology.

I can't say he wasn't interested six months ago. He's not in the rumor mill.
I have had some discussions with him over the last 3 months or so. I am not
privy to all his business dealings or direct contacts he may have made with the
liquidators or other parties in the bidding.

no, video producers should RUN to get NewTek Flyer system – they're AWESOME!
I have been wondering how Newtek plans to continue production of Flyers when no
new Amigas are being produced at this time, and probably won't be for awhile.
Boards for existing Toaster owners only?
Incidentally, my local Flyer Dealer received on with the 0.9 software, and he
says it is too "buggy" to even demo to his customers, and doesn't know when the
"Official" 1.0 release is due (he is praying it will be soon, since he has
several firm orders (with deposits)

I believe NewTek will have their hands full for the forseeable future just
supplying existing Toaster owners who want Flyers faster than they can be
produced. Obviously NewTek will have to see past the point when that demand
slows due to saturation … I am using the Flyer software used by NewTek at the
VTU EXPO for their own demo units. I have received only part of the 0.9 system
and haven't used it yet – I expect to see the 0.9 system shortly. NewTek DID
say, BTW, that it WOULD be buggy – it is 0.9, not 1.0. Hope its not really
THAT bad… My '0.8' works fairly well (definitely some bugs there, too,
though).
