To those of you who have been concerned about turning off compression on the Exabyte 8505: —- If you call 1-800-392-8273 (Exabyte Sales) you can order Part Number 313183-000 which is a tape cartridge (with instructions) which when executed will turn off compression on your tape system. The cost is $22.00 plus shipping and handling. If you ever want to turn compression back on you will need part number 313167-000. The cost is the same. For those of you who need to know the tape modifies the system firmware. As far as I can tell after talking to Exabyte Tech support this is the only way to turn compression off or on.
