#Recommend SCSI/PVR Drive
9 messages in this thread
What are the recommended harddrives for use with the PVR.
I'm about to purchase a 4.2 GB drive for use as storage at this time, but when
time gets right I might upgrade from PAR to PVR and thus want to buy the drive
so I can maybe use it for the PVR later on.
Which are the best performing 4 GB drives at this time for the PVR???
Christophe
Hi Christophe,
in the manual of the PVR are only the special AV drives from MICROPOLIS and
SEAGATE recommended.

Seagate Barracuda 4 and coming soon, the 8 Gb is pretty good. I have lot of
them and several Elite 9 Gb. Excellent performance. Only 1 failed during the
last 12 month. The problem was because of my faulty external case' fan that
over heated. I recommend you to get a bigger ext. case or put extra fan around
it. It's quite hot. The specs rated Seagate higher by a small margin than
Micropolis. The Elite 9 was the top rated out of all. Check out New Media mag.
months back and you'll see it all.

Christophe,
The Micropolis 3243AV (Audio/Video version of their SCSI-2 4.3 Gig. 3.5"
drive) is approved for use with the DPS PVR (Perception).

According to DPS, here's the list:
Micropolis:
4221AV 2.0GB 8 Minutes
3243AV 4.0GB 16 Minutes
1991AV 9.0GB 36 Minutes
Seagate:
ST-32550N 2.1GB 8 Minutes
ST-15150N 4.3GB 16 Minutes
(Minutes are approx. Recording Times..)
These are the drives that have been certified for use with the PVR..

What does "RSS" stand for? Do you do your own hardware ratings? (Hard to trust
the manufacturers numbers, long wait for the magazines).

It stands for Reliable Software Solutions, Inc.

Not "officially".. We can talk in-depth about this if you're interested..
Hope to hear from you..

Should have read this e-mail first before I replied to your other message. Am
still looking for a PVR & daughter card.
