I donwloaded a file from the Amiga section of the Midi forum called
"Eartrainer.lha" and I find myself in a catch 22 situation. The programs I
have to decompress lha files does not work on this program and reports that
perhaps I need a newer version of the program lharc. The catch 22 is that any
program I have found on compuserve and elswhere requires a current lha
decompressor to decompress. There should be a pak version of a new lha
unarchiver. I found one program "lx.lha" but again it will not decompress for
me. It reports the same problem of not being compatible with lh5 scheme.
Please offer some help… Thanks….

Download the file LHA138.RUN from our Archivers/Crunchers library. This is
a self-extracting archive that contains the latest freely distributable version
of LHA ( the successor to lharc ).

Wow!!! I had the EXACT same problem. Needed an newer version and that
-LH5- kept popping up. I followed the sysops advice here… and
downloaded LHA138.run from the multitude of decompressor utilities in
the libaries. From the CLI screen I then typed LHA138.run and WaLa I
now had a decompresser to decompress ALL the files I had. All I did
wad place the file I wanted to decompress in the same directory I had
the LHA138.run program in and then from the CLI screen typed LHA e
<filename>.. and presto!!! Hope this helps.. If not Im sure the Sysop
can steer you towards the light. 🙂 Joe
