I want to print out still images created in 3ds through my Epson Stylus
printer and (I hope) hold the high resolution I get on screen. I am new to
this –starting from scratch–and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I create my 3DS images at 1200×1500 (make sure you set display to NULL for this
output), bring the image into Photoshop 3, set the resolution to 8×10 inches,
150dpi, and print to my Epson Stylus (720dpi paper) from there. The results
are superb.
I use my Epson Stylus Color for test prints by loading the image into Photoshop
and printing from there. You have a lot more control and it also allows you to
tweak the image to get around the Epsons color quirks.
