#Poster from 3ds
6 messages in this thread
I recently had a client ask me about getting a poster made from a 3d still of
an animation I made. Has anyone had experience creating a still with high
enough resolution that it could be blown up to a 3ft. tall poster?
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Bruce,
There is (or was at the time) a place in Baton Rouge that specialized in that
type of work with 3DS. I went to their office when I was first looking for a
dealer around May or June. They have posters that are even bigger than that
hanging on the walls. If you are interested, their number is (504) 926 5686. I
believe the guys name was Mike Keller that was doing that work then.

Bruce,
I did the TIE Fighter (game) cover/poster in 3DS at 2325×2963 and it worked
great! (300 dpi for the box art, at 7 3/4 x 9 7/8 in.) The Dark Forces
cover/poster was rendered (in Prisms) at a lower resolution because of time
constraints. I can't remember the numbers exactly on that one, but it works
well as a poster and only ended up at about 80 dpi in poster form (though you
can see the pixelization up close).

I liked that cover. I assume Lucas has all the Star Wars characters as 3D
objects.

Thanks

Well, we've got just about all the ships now (check out Rebel 2 in a while),
characters just started showing up with that Storm Trooper for Dark Forces.

Bruce,
First you need to render the fram at a high resolution, maybe 2000×3000.
With a good tif file there are scads of service outfits that can creat a
Lasermaster, Novajet, inkjet, etc, etc poster.
