#TRUE TYPE FONTS
8 messages in this thread
Does any one know of a True Type to 3D Studio font converter ? I was able to
get it done by exporting to DXF from Micrographix Designer, then into AutoCAD
where there were thousands of line segments. After tracing over them with
polylines, I then imported them into 3D Studio. VERY time consuming ! Any help
finding a converter or just a better way to do it would be much appreciated.
Sheesh! That does sound tedious, Chris!
I usually .AI out of Corel Draw into the Shaper. Pretty easy. 3DS will load
PFB's, so if you have a TT-to-PFB converter you could use that. Does
Micro/Designer export .AI? You might try that if it does. Just remember to Weld
all Vertices in the Shaper after importing…
Good luck,

Alan,
Your sugestion was very helpful. Designer does export .AI files, and aside from
having to loft some of the polygons separately, it works great. I only wished
that I had posted the question before I spent all that time on it !
Thanks again,
Chris
I'm glad I was able to help, Chris.

There was a shareware Windows app called Fontstudio 3D on here a few months
ago. It extruded .TTFs with or without bevels. We used it at a place I was
working and it worked fine, .DXF output direct into 3DS. I think the file was
called F3D134.zip or something similar. If you can't find it, I think I may
still have it around somewhere and could re-U/L it if I can find it. Let me
know.

Stephen,
I could not find Fontstudio 3D, but I got a tip to use an .AI export and it
suits my current needs (without costing me any thing!). I would still like to
check FS 3d out however. So if you do run across it (on the net or whatever),
let me know where I can D/L from.
Thanks,
Chris
Try Fontographer – it'll change TTF to PFB (and vice verca) very easily.
