Well, EA is up to more than just Earl Weaver Baseball. The ad in AW showed
an auto racing game called GRAND PRIX in which we would have a first person
look out of the cockpit of a Formula I car (ala Pole Position). I think a
game like this has a lot of potential as an auto race SIMULATION. I would
like to be able to race against "smart" opponents whose sole mission in
life is NOT to try and make me crash; rather I would like to have them try
to outdrive me. The ad mentioned being able to "look into your rearview
mirror" which would be a great feature. Hopefully the game will
incorporate pit stops, drafting, crashes, spins, and all the other
unpredictable events that make Formula I racing an endurance race. Can't
you just hear your Ferrari Turbo revving through your speakers?
EA's ad also features screen shots of Earl Weaver Baseball and The Bard's
Tale. The screen shots are only 1" x 1" but still give the reader an idea
of what the games will look like. If nothing else, it's just nice to have
the rumors substantiated.
I have Mean 18 as I owned it for the PC and liked the game play better than
Leaderboard. Everyone around here is raving about Leaderboard's graphics
compared to Mean 18 but I wasn't that impressed. I think the golfer in LB
has a great baseball swing. I used the Course Architect to design
Muirfield on the PC version and I plan to begin constructing it on the Amy
in the near future. Can I legally upload the Muirfield course to the DL
after having constructed it? I would be happy to send it to you once it's
completed. My PC version was pretty accurate, although I didn't know
about the contures of the putting greens.
I'll probably hold off on Gridiron! for now as I have my eye onb Earl
Weaver Baseball, AutoduBard's Tale, and Grand Prix. Oh yes, Gamestar has
announced that their sports games will be available for the Amiga as well.
I'm a big One-on-One fan and am really looking forward to Gamestar's
Two-on-Two B-ball game.
What's your lowest score on Mean 18? Nevin
Nevin, Being naturally impatient, I took the liberty tuesday afternoon to
call EA direct. Don't get your hopes up for baseball, return to atlantis,
or any race game before spring. They plan on having autoduel, DMCS, Bard's
tale (I think I'll pass, I've already beaten the apple version) and a
Instant Music data disk by Nov. and that's all for the year. As for any
other publisher I'll believe it when I see it in the store. I took like
Mean 18 better than Leader Board, but it's because of the architect program
more than because of the game itself. I recreated parts of golf holes I've
played and I am now trying to recreate the Lake Buena Vista course at
Disney World (My second favorite forum is the Disney part of the florida
forum). My lowest is on St Andrews I got a 61, probably not all that great
but I had'nt played that course before. The designer sure makes pushovers
compared to my courses. I like a challange, like 640 yd doglegs. But I
can't wait to see the new AW. I can't find it anywhere here yet. Do you
get yours through a subscription?
