Have you seen the Yamaha FB01 module ??? My gripes with CZ101 /CZ1000 are
as follows: it can not respond to velocity data , in polyphonic mode most
of the good sounds are only 4 note poly and anything I can do on my CZ1000
I can do on my KORG DW8000 and it usually sounds better ! Many of the
musical instrument stores in my area have dropped CASIO because of the new
stuff coming from Yamaha Roland , KORG , and AKAI.
Haven't seen an FB01, just read about it and have talked to folks who have
used it. Hmm, the Cz1000 I played at Computers & Music in Daly City, Ca.
was most definitely velocity sensitive…d'ya mean that it just doesn't
respond to the velocity byte in MIDI note-ons? Haven't heard the DW8000,
but I agree: everything's getting better, fast. Which probably means Casio
will have a new generation of better stuff soon!

Have you checked out the ensoniq esq-1? That is multi-timbrel with some
nice fat analog sounds. I know some folks who swear by digital (read
'YAMAHA') equipment, but the esq-1 is on my wish list for a multi timbrel
synth (along with some FB01s). I hope you know to check Music Alley Online
(go MAO) in the mall for the best prices. They beat all my local retailers

I am not exactly a Ensoniq fan. I am a person one of those persons who
swears by Yamaha equipment , I currently own A pair of FB01s hooked up to a
KORG DW8000 synth and I have an AKAI Sampler to help get those sounds I can
not produce with the FB01s and the DW8000. I am saving my money up for the
new AKAI X7000 Sampler . Everbody around here is talking about and the
price is right!! Marc
Do you have a Commodore 64? Ensoniq was started by the guys who
designed the VIC and SID chips!
Yes I have heard that the Ensoniq engineering has some X-commodore people.
I don't get as excited as some people do over Ensoniq equipment. There have
been several times I almost bought Ensoniq stuff in the past year but each
time I found something better at competitive cost. There equipment is O.K.
I just do not think they make stuff that is truly a magnitude better than
the rest (today) I think my thinking comes from the fact that I heard some
great stuff out of Akai's lower cost Sampler the S612 than out of a Mirage
Rack Mount. Marc
