A CZ1000 is the large key CZ101 , IT is EXACTLY the same as a CZ101 except
for the fact it uses standard size keys. It's cost is about $399 or
typically $100 to $150 more than a CZ101. You are thinking of the CZ-1
which CASIO was trying to sell at $1395.00 and does respond to velocity
data on Midi AND from its keyboard . The CZ-1 is floundering badly and most
remaining dealers are selling them at $900 to $950 just to get rid of them.
Don't get me wrong CASIO does make some good stuff like their new Drum
Machine , If I were looking to spend $250 for a CZ101 I would take a
serious look first at a Yamaha DX100 (about $350) or a DX27.
I stand corrected, it must have been a CZ-1 I played. I agree: if you
wanted to buy a dinky synth, you should look at the CZ101, DX100, and
DX27.

Hmm, "dinkiness" is a ticklish question, isn't it? DX100/27 are pretty
amazing compared to all home computers' built-in sound guts so far.
DX100/27 is on a par with Casio CZ-101, Yamaha FB-01, etc. DX-100/27 is
dinky compared with DX7, Emulator II, Mirage, digital reverbs, etc.
DX-100/27 is miniscule vis-a-vis Kurzweil, Fairlight, Synclavier. I've
worked with people who own all of these horrible noisemakers, and my
immediate co-workers are on the DX7/Emulator II level, so YES, within the
context of the kinds of synthesizers I'm used to using (when I use
synthesizers, which is NOT always!!), the DX100/27 is/are dinky. No
offense intended; just a question of what one's used to.

Right. I just got my DX27. To go multi-timbrel I plan to add some FB01s.
One soon, more later. And that ensoniq I mentioned last message

Wait – the way I got stuck in the mesage pile it looks like I'm agreeing
that the DX27 is dinky. I don't think so – it beats the CZ101 and 1000.

In my last reply I mention the AKAI X7000 sampler/keyboard , you should check
that one out before the Ensoniq Marc
Marc I'm not really interested in a sampler right now – I want a setup like
you've got, with an analog synth (your Korg) and some Yamaha stuff. I've
got a DX27 now, I'd like to get the Ensoniq ESQ-1 as an analog synth and
some FB-01s like you've got. Have you heard the ESQ-1? I think it has a
fatter sound with more variety (3 oscillators) than the Korg. Dee
Its hard to tell which synth is better. I still like a lot of the sounds on
the Roland Alpha Juno 2 better than either the ESQ-1 or Korg. The Korg
digital delay and built in arpeggiator are nice added bonuses and the Korg
is about $300-$400 less than the ESQ-1 which about covers the price of an
FB01. Synthesizers are about the same in flexibility in a given price
range . It is really up to you and to determine what you like . I
personally like the Roland and Korg for analog style synths. Some people
like the CASIO CZ-1 , others think the KAWAI K-3 is one of the best deals
