What version do you have? Mimetics is updating SoundScape pretty much
constantly, and has already released one new version.
I'm just getting started with SS, and would be glad to answer any specific
questions that I can. As to crashing, I will observe that their standalone
sampler software (the first version released, not the one about to ship)
was a bit more fragile than the others I've worked with; it had a tendancy
to crash if you got ahead of it with the mouse. I know you want a program
which you consider to work properly, rather than trying to work around
difficulties, but I also expect you want to get some work (or fun) done
with minimum chances of a crash, so I offer this: Try waiting for each
operation to complete before mousing anything else. Don't get ahead of the
menus or requestors. See if this helps any at all with the crashes.
I have been working with SS for several weeks now and have experienced
many of the problems with it. It is true, you must wait for the task to
finish before you click the mouse again or you may crash. This has to do
with the way it moves memory around when you change tasks. Another problem
you may encounter is that when you save a file (Track,Sound, or whatever)
you have to make sure you don't put a period in the name (such as
"bass.new") because the program seems to look for the period and a
following code (".track",".sound",…) I learned this by losing tracks so
be careful. The more I learn the more I see this is a very powerful
program. I have added about 20 sampled sound to the library and can start a
pretty good jam without an external keyboard. One thing I would like to
see is program that prints out the songs as a music score. Maybe one is in
the works…? (Or maybe, I'll work on one…) Any specific questions just
