$2200.00 on the cut throat market-WOW!
Just for comparison purposes, the plotter we favor lists for about 5000.00, or
6200.00 with a multi-pen stable (which is not required for our software, but is
nice to have) –Ben–
Gee, Ben, I`ll bet they are all fine plotters. Its just that $6200 seems
like an awfull lot for an "accessory" to a $600 computer.
If I were a professional PCB designer I`d probably just shrug it of as a
normal business expense. But I`m a hobbyist right now and its just a
little to rich for my blood.

I know, that's the rough part for those who just want to have fun… There's no
other way right now… laser printer would do it, if a driver were written and
the printer could handle some stable media, but nothing has surfaced yet. It
sticks in my craw too, believe me, because your 600 computer, my 200 or 500
package, and a low cost output device would be heaven, as far as it's
sale-ability goes. It's not us — we don't handle the hardware. –Ben–

Ben, what do you mean by "stable media", as in, "if the printer could handle
some stable media".
A laser printer and driver sounds like a great idea, I`ve heard that dot matrix
is out, how about ink-jet? (since we are talking on theoretical level at this
point.

Paper changes size with humidity, temperature, pressure from the printhead
(deformation), and age. Mylar, or acetate, tends to stay the same size under a
wide range of conditions, and so is a prefferred media for drawings that have
mechanical requirements. Ink jets might also work. The problem here is that
both acetate and mylar are too stiff, and often to thick to be successfully
used with a 'normal' printer mechanism. –Ben–
