IBM PC/MAC fonts

Richard Concerning your question of which font package to purchase when using both MAC and IBM PC machines. Previously, we recommended customers purchase the Macintosh typeface package and then the IBM PC screen fonts. This recommendation due to the fact that our PC fonts could only be downloaded via serial port. With the new version of our PC fonts (available shortly) you will be able to download via parallel port as well. Other issues to consider…which machine do you use most? Say you purchase MAC fonts, well, now you have the AFMs and when you purchase the PC screen font or download it from this Forum, you will have the AFM & PFMs (font metrics) for the PC application. You can also do this scenario in reverse, however, the MAC screen fonts are not sold separately so you would only have the option of downloading them from this Forum or getting them from a service bureau that has signed a screen font redistribution agreement with us. So…buy either package-then get ahold of the screen font (only) for the other computer. Hope this helps. Lori Haines

Lori, Thanks for the reply. It makes it clear that it can be done either way with some supplemental help on the screen fonts and AFM's. My main concern was to ensure that either machine could access the fonts once downloaded. Thanks. Dick
