Hi Steve,
Do you or anyone else here know if a SHAM pic can be converted to an IFF pic?
I have SHAM3 and Digi Paint 3 w/Transfer 24. I thought I saw a message here
about someone doing that.

Well, technically, SHAM 3.0 pics *are* IFF images. The only difference is a
special chunk which describes the palette data for each line.
Unfortunately, because only SHAM viewer programs at this time know about this
extra chunk, any attempt to use a SHAM image in a "normal" paint program will
look like garbage.
Eventually, someone will probably write a program to do the conversion to
normal IFF, but there isn't any now that I'm aware of.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in but, I believe that what was used
to accomplish SHAM to regular IFF was –
1. Load a SHAM picture with ShamView3.0
2. Use a screen grabbing program such as "Grabbit" from Discovery
Sofware (or use one of the several PD programs) to grab and save the screen
image as a regular IFF file.
3. Finally, use DigiPaint3.0 or whatever paint program to tweak the
picture for best possible results.
Ed, I have "Grabbit" and I'll try it out Sunday and see what results I
get. I forget who the person was who actually did it, but as I recall he/she
was somewhat pleased with the results.

Thanks for your speedy reply, ahh, so I did see that message. I'll be waiting
to here how you do with the Grabbit. I'll have to look into a program like
that. I'm kinda new to the Amiga and its video capabiltiies, or should I say
AWED by it. What a great computer.

I tried it! It was terrible! It's just like Ray Lewis said, "AWFUL". I am
afarid that we are going to have to wait for someone to develop a SHAM paint
program for AMY!

My experience with Hermit and ScreenX is that it doesn't save the part of the
information that changes the palette for each line. As a result, the picture
grabbed looks awful.
I think Steve Bennett said that the developer of the SHAM format was working on
a paint program, but I'm not sure how long it might be (if ever) before we see
a SHAM picture manipulation system. (I hope it comes, since the pics are
great).

are right, "GRABBIT" garbled the SHAM pics too!
Oh well, I guess we have to wait.
