I am unable to import an AutoCAD version 10 image into a WP 5.0 Figure box. The manual suggests that the native AutoCad *.dwg file format can be imported. I get an incorrect format error message with all of the following: 1. the native *.dwg file format, 2. an ASCII dxf file format, 3. a binary dxf file format, 4. an eigs format and, 5. a printer plot file for my LQ-1500. The only way that I have been able to capture the image is by using GRAB and the resolution was so poor as to be unusable. What do you suggest? Thanks, Gene

Gene, I had a similar problem while trying to import images from DesignCAD 3. The native file, converted to dxf format would not load. What I finally came up with which worked very well (with several kind suggestions from the membership here) was to go into the setup routine and select an HP plotter from the plotter configuration section. (I chose the HP7475.) Instead of selecting a COM or LPT port, choose "disk file" output. Then plot the file to disk. This file is acceptable to WP5's graphics box, although a little slow to load. If you want something which loads faster, at a sacrifice of about 200-400 bytes is file size, use the GRAPHCNV program to convert the plotter file to WPG format. This file will load very rapidly and maintains all of the resolution of the original drawing. You can even "edit" the file to adjust its size or rotation within the figure box. Hope this helps. If you need more information, drop me a note here. I normally check in here at least 3-4 time a week. Guy Simpson, Sr. Chemist, NUS Corporation

Thanks Guy, It worked! Plotting to a file configured for my Houston Instruments DM52 did not work but when I used your HP 7475 configuration with GRAPHCNV it worked like a charm. I always say, "Go to the experts!" Gene

Gene, I don't know about "the experts", but I was happy to lend a hand. I am a fairly new user to WP 5 myself. I just happened to go through the same problem a short while ago _AND_ happened to be the first one to see your message. That is one thing about the WPSG forum, as well as most of the other forums (fora?) on CI$ — everyone tries to pitch in to help when someone has a problem. You will probably get several more replies over the next few days telling you the same thing I did. Good luck. If you have any more problems, just drop a note here, or drop me an Eplex. If I can't help, I will try to find someone who can. Guy Simpson, NUS Corporation
