SHAM 3.0 bug!
3 messages in this thread
SHAMview 3.0 works ok on a file like GILDA.LHZ, but when I tried to use it on
parrot.sham from the original sham U/L in crashes the machine. Using the old
ShamView on GILDA.LHZ (de-arced of course) only gives a nonsense picture.
How does one tell ahead of time which SHAMview to use on which file to avoid
the crash?

Generally speaking, use the later one. Almost every SHAM image on this forum
is in the newer format. And I expect that all the new SHAM images will also be
the newer format.
You can tell, if you wish, by doing a "TYPE <filename> OPT H" and looking at
the beginning of the file. If it doesn't contain things like "FORM", "ILBM",
etc., then it is the older format, otherwise it's the newer format.

P.S. Older format files can be converted to the new format using the Updater
program in SHAMUP.ZOO, in LIB 9.
Steve, I'll go look for Shamup. Another weird thing happened is that SuperSHAM
won't display either file!! SO I've got 3 viewers, one crashe the machine on
the older style, one will only display the older style, and one will display
neither! Sounds like SHAM is an appropriate name….
