We are looking for a replacement takeup canister for our L300. Having a spare would be very useful, but they are "muy caro" from you-know-who. Any offers or alternatives appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Jungle, it was nice to see another CIS denizen at Seybold. Right offhand, I'm fairly certain that there are no alternate suppliers for whole takeup cassettes. We have five between the two machines, and, believe me, if there was something cheaper I'd have found it by now. Curiously enough, however, there is somebody in New England that I remember seeing in a TypeWorld from long ago that is making replacement lids for these things – apparently the clips eventually wear them out. I'll go back through the old issues and see if I can find them. …mm

Collier Instruments, P.O. Box 9442, Berkeley, CA 94709 (415/845-6389) has an ad in the 1st September issue of TypeWorld advertising L300 cassette *repair*, and new cassettes for other machines. Don't know if they'd know anything about new cassettes for an L300, but it might be worth a try. (I *knew* I kept all those back issues around for a reason…) –Bill

Hear that, Jungle? (Thanks, Bill, I'll give them a buzz, too.) …mm
