Thes Amiga Zone thing at the end of my message was just a habbit I picked up a long time ago. It never had any relationship to a board. I've never logged onto the zone. Just a little slip of the fingers. Amiga Zone inmy head was a vision of the entire Amiga universe (products, people, etc.) and not a BBS (although I'm sure it's a fine one). Enough on that. Will you be at AmiExpo Santa Clara?? If so I'll see you there (I think I'm going for AC). -=See Ya=-=Amiga Universe=-=Mike Mo=-

Amiga Universe sounds much better. 🙂 I probably won't be going to AmiExpo in Santa Clara….not unless I get a free trip soon! 🙂 Have fun at the show! From what I've been hearing, sounds like there's going to be a lot going on! Steve

It should be interesting. All the hype from the new ad capaign will just be hitting. I can't wait to see a 'real' Amiga commercial on TV! Then I can say 'That's the computer we produce products for!'. As far as I can tell this 4th quarter is make or break for the Amiga. I have a lot of faith in the man of Copper. Let's go CBM!!

I agree…the last real commercial I saw on TV was the 2001-type commercial. (And that was some time ago.) I'm going to be watching the press like a hawk to find out more about the campaign. (I'm going to be watching the stock even more carefully! 🙂 Does anyone know when the Entertainment Tonight spots for LucasFilm are going to be shown? Steve

I don't know that, but in today's NY Daily News was an announcement that CBM's big Lucas based campaign starts tomorrow, or should I say, today. Ron

I heard that the week of Oct 16 (the week the ads start) is when the Entertainment Tonight spots will run. Sounds great! -=Mike Mo=-

Steve, according to the note I penned down when I read the announcement, the ET stuff is supposed to take place the week of the 16th of this month. Brian J. Bartlett

If, with this advertising campaign, Commodore can't even get A500s to sell in the US, that may be the end of it. If there is a disappointment I'm afraid the development will leave the US and go to Europe. — Ethan

Ethan, What makes you think that CBM won't have any A500's to sell? Don
#69231From: Ethan SolomitaOct 10, 1989 11:15 PM
Don, I think you misunderstood me. I meant to say that I think that this advertising campaign is extremely important and may end up deciding the fate of the Amiga in the US. If the ads work then things should be great, but if it fails then I think the Amiga will probably never really sell here. — Ethan P.S. I tend to believe the former!
#69240From: Don Curtis/SYSOPOct 11, 1989 1:36 AM
Ethan, Ah…ok, the wording was a bit misleading. So what you are trying to say is that with the big advertising campaign, CBM ought to be able to sell tons of hardware, but if they don't…they're in trouble. Right? If so…then yes, I agree. If this advertising campaign doesn't work…we do have a problem. Don
#69142From: DON HICKSOct 10, 1989 2:54 PM
Well, lets hope that doesn't happen. CBM has just opened a office in DC to help get the Amigas into government (this could be a rumor). The A500 is a great machine for the money, and as long as the ads are decent (they should be great, thanks George!), they should hit somewhere near the 100,000 machines sold. This would be almost 1/3 more Amigas in the states! This would be great for all of us. Rumor has it that some of the big boys are watching this ad campaign. If things go O.K. then they say they'll do some stuff for the Amiga. -=Mike Mo=
#69230From: Ethan SolomitaOct 10, 1989 11:15 PM
The office in DC isn't a rumor. I would think that CBM might even hope for MORE than 100,000 over the next two quarters. What you said about "the big boys" watching: yes that IS very important, but if the ads DON'T work, then that may be doom. My point is that I think this is make or break for CBM USA. If this fails, I think it may be too late. — Ethan

Ethan, I have to agree with you. The Amiga has to sell this Christmas. It has benn too much talk and not enough action from CBM (untill recently). It is time to put up or shut up. We all want it to happen. I've heard the commercials are great. I guess we'll find out tonight. Today is the day. -=Mike Mo=

Don't you thinnk that may be exaggerating just a little bit? If the campaign fails, I doubt if that will spell the "doom" of the Amiga in this country. It probably just means that the Amiga will not achieve mainstream status, a la IBM and Mac. Don
