The Amiga WordPerfect Maintenance update is now shipping. Those interested should call either Customer Support or Orders at WordPerfect Corporation. // \X/ Lynn (relieved that it's finally shipping)

Lynn, Congrats on finally getting the 4.1 maintenence upgrade out the door. I don't have the full upgrade yet, but one of the customer support people sent me the Print disk earlier this month to help me with problems that I was having with the PostScript Palatino driver. As you recall, that driver had _lots_ of bugs. On the new Print disk most of the bugs seem to have been fixed, but one remains. The Palatino driver does not properly handle Tab Align. Whatever character I choose for alignment, the problem remains. The Times driver has always worked well and all the additional PostScript drivers on the new disk work flawlessly. This bug still remains with Palatino. I am printing to a Laserwriter II NT which has no problem handling other PostScript output in any way that I can tell. The customer support people tell me that on their machines the driver works just fine. I have a page full of numbers in collumns (using both the Collumns feature and Tabs). The page prints correctly using any of the drivers on the disk other than Palatino, which of course is the font I need to use. Could I E-Mail you this file for your examination? Rich

Rich, If you'd like us to take a look at the document that's no problem. You might want to try it with the new version of Print before doing so though. // \X/ Lynn PS. The disk they sent you should have the old Print, but the new definitions. The update will have the new Print and definitions.

Lynn, I haven't been following this, what are the major features of the new maintenance release? Who would benefit from it? Thanks

There is a file here somewhere describing the new WP maintenance release. A few of the things it mentions are: new file requestors/list files, added hyphenation options, more beep options, improved edit buffer management, default document path, default macro path, improved timed backup, custom screen support, and a couple other surprizes along with being much smoother and cleaner. // \X/ Lynn

Hi Lynn. The last upgrade I got of WP, the person who took my order over the phone specifically told me not to wipe the old PRINT disk, as there were some problems with the new ones. Is this no longer a problem with the new release? Also, I'm using a groddy old Star NP-10 for draft output(I know, I know!), and I was wondering if there was going to be a driver that I could safely use that would work with it. There hasn't been an official driver on previous rel releases. Thanks J.C.

John, Yes, the update fixes all know printer definition problems. However, it never hurts to keep old printer definitions around (if they work) especially when you're using one not specifically designed for your printer. I'm not aware of any official driver for the Start NP-10. We only have official drivers for printers we have. We do have some unofficial drivers for various printers. These are usually drivers written by users. Note: the unofficial drivers are no longer on the shipping Print disk (size considerations), for the unofficial drivers call support. // \X/ Lynn

Lynn, This doesn't exactly follow the thread…but I've got a question. A couple of days ago, I received a letter from WP regarding some non-disclosure agreement or something to do with a developers license. I don't think I was supposed to receive this. I have already given customer support and/or order desk my credit card # for the update, which I am anxiously awaiting. Did something get screwed up? Is there any way that you could check for me? Thanks, Daniel Weiner

Daniel, Yes, I'd say something got screwed up. I'll see what I can do. // \X/ Lynn

Lynn: I've been off for a while with post-Hugo woes. What ever happened to the Alps ALQ-200 printer driver for use in IBM mode for WPv.5? Remember, I'm the guy who needs to use the IBM emulation to be able to print the Spanish characters. If the driver has been written, has it been posted on WP Forum? Bill

Bill, I haven't heard any word back on the IBM mode driver for the Alps ALQ-200 in WP 5.0. I'll check with the 5.0 printer group to see if that is done or what. Meanwhile you might want to wander into WPSG and see if they've already posted one. // \X/ Lynn

Lynn, remember when I asked if WP would cond..er, consider an upgrade offer to go from Amiga V4.1 to MSDOS V5.0 and you said, no we don't upgrade across systems?? How comwe then your current WP magazixne offers an upgrade from MSDOS Vx.x to OS/2?? That is certainly an upgrade across systems and potentially across platforms. Oh well, life isn't fair, as some dead politician said. Rob.

Lynn: Sorry for posting that message to the wrong party. I,ll check at WPSG as you suggest. Incidentally, that was a great write-up you guys received in a recent issue of Business Week. I realize articles like that often are the result of excellent PR efforts, but my experiences with your company more than back up all the nice things they say about you. I was particularly impressed with the report of the extremely low personnel turnover WP enjoys. By the way, I finally got around to writing a macro that converts those strange symbols I get for Spanish characters when I transfer WP Amiga files over to WP v.5. I am waiting for my upgrade of the WP Amiga, but will this version correct the bug you mentioned a while back which prevents the clean transfer of files with foreign characters? Bill
