ERASE.LZH/binary 10-Oct-89 5339 Title : Fill file with 0 then erase. No possible recovery Keywords: ERASE FILE UTILITY PARANOID SECURITY Program Descripion – Very simple, this program will re-write the contents of any file with binary zeros before deleting it. Why? – This program was written for all you paranoid people out there who can't stand the thought of a deleted file being brought back to life by some recovery program. Second upload, FFS bug fixed.

Steve- For the truly paranoid, I read somewhere that one can determine the last four or five "bit settings" on a hard drive. This is (if I remember correctly) used by IRS and FBI types to reconstruct illegal data that has been erased/wiped/written over from a hard disk. The Norton Utilities Wipedisk for the IBM world will fill a file with alternating passes of 1's then 0's based on a command line option (up to X times). too? Just a thought to help us paranoids to sleep better… Doug T.
