CityDesk & HPLasers

Has any other users of CityDesk 2.0 and the HP Laserjet had as many problems
with fonts as I've had?
Richard;
I have never upgraded to CityDesk 2.0 but never had any trouble with CityDesk
1.? and the JetSet fonts. Am considering upgrading City Desk now that it is
supposed to work with the Virtual Page.

I've had a nightmarish time with softfonts (from C-Ltd). The folks at
Microsearch knew exactly what the problems were when I talked with them and
promised that version 2.01 would fix them. I got this upgrade and it didn't fix
all of them (including printing junk characters i.e. "<j" on the page before
the font is selected and every time a carriage return is used). When I called
them back, they gave me the programmer's name (out of frustration, I suppose)
and I've had a uniquely unsatisfying dialogue with him since. This program has
been the Program From Hell because of this problem: if I wanted to print in
only courier (which, by the way doesn't have these problems) I'd have stuck
with WordPerfect…
(Thanks for letting me blow…)

Go for the upgrade – it is a better product. You might not like some of
the changes (took out some of the hot keys) and it is alittle buggy (the editor
is not all there) but over all it is a better program.

IMHO Micro Search has done a really bad job marketing the new version.
There has not been a whole lot of talk about this program as compared to all
the pre-release gossip about PageStream. I can't compare the two just yet
because I have not seen PS, but I do think the City Desk is a good DTP. Like I
said the new version has some bugs in it, but don't they all.
CD is really good with HP Lasers (although I don't have one) and it does
an excellent job with 24pin printers (I have a Star XB2410 – Love it). I'm
about to get PixelScript, to see what CD and postscript can do on my 24 wire.
From what I've read about PixelScript, the results should be good.
Let me know what you think of the new version when you get it.

I have Citydesk 2.01 and haven't had any problems with the JetSet fonts, I have
a Okidata Laserline 6 printer and the program works very well with the all the
fonts I got as a matter of fact I have modified some of the Jetset fonts with a
public domain program that modifies the fonts to outline or 3 d effect and the
program prints them just fine, the fonts or program are more stable than
Pagestream.

Well, it was the program from hell for me, as I called and asked for the
version 2.01 three times. I got one, but it wasn't 2.01 despite being
advertised as such. They even gave me the programmer's phone number, but he
wasn't helpful.
Finally, yesterday (Friday the 13th), I got the true version 2.01, and it
works fine. Hopefully, it's the end of story.
Despite everything, I feel that the folks at Microsearch have been extremely
helpful, if a bit fuddled at times…
