#Better Software Needed

This is really just a plea to the developers in this forum. I am probably
one f the biggest amiga fans out there, but I find the quality of software
on the market distressing. There is so little out there to help the Amigas
join in on the current IBM dominated market. For example… is there a CAD
program for the Amiga that can actualy compare to AutoCAD 386? I know the
A3000 can compete against a 386 and probably come out ahead… so where is
the CAD program to set the Amiga into the CAD market? How about a LOTUS
compatible spreadsheet? Is there a spreadsheet out there for the Amiga
that can actually compare to LOTUS? I know there was VIP, but it just
doesn't like the A3000 at all. What about Desktop Publishing? Anything
for the Amiga that can compare to Ventra Publish and those other big IBM
and Mac programs? WordPerfect supported the Amiga for a while, but it died
out. Now with more Amigas out there and a more professional appearance, it
is time for serious applications to be developed for the Amiga. Granted,
movement in the 24-bit graphics is finally happening, but there is already
talk about 32-bit graphics… how about making the Amiga the first in that
market. The Amiga needs a REAL accounting package for small to medium
sized businesses. These markets are untouched and I think might be a valid
investment for an Amiga developer. Commodore has done a pretty sucky job
in marketing the Amiga. The developers are gonna have to be the ones to
get the ball rolling. I would appreciate any replies to this but please
send them to me VIA Email so I will be sure to get them.
I meant this to go to all developers in this conference but I think I can
send it to only one…please spread it to the others and let the concerns
of alot of people be known. Thank you.

You missed lots of developers over here. You might try sending that to
AmigaTech. If you have access to the developers' section there, put it in
section 16. If not, and if you have developer status, you might ask for
access to that section. Otherwise, just leave it in a section that looks
good to you. We have vendors in this forum, who definitely do develop some
nice things for us, but there are many other deveopers on the forum who
come here only when they need to ask a question of a vendor.
Incidentally, SupreBase PRO is an excellent database. I cannot claim that
we have a good spreadsheet, but let's not stop with Lotus – let's ask for
QuattroPRO. For DTP, bot PageStream and ProPage do very nicely. I think
ProPage combined with ProDraw are really good.

Actually, Lotus would be easier to port to the Amiga than Quattro Pro (at
least I assume so) since Lotus is based upon the C-language. Lotus did this
mainly to be able to port their spreadsheet to the Unix platform fast, and
easily. So, I would imagine that it would be very simple to port it to hte
Amiga – though I think Lotus needs incentive to even think about it.

You know, Precision is one of the rare software developers out there
producing powerful, well written applications for the Amiga that are not
neccessarily graphic or video orientated… ie: Superbase. From my
understanding, the latest release (due to be out soon?) come close, if not
identical w/ the IBM version of Superbase IV for Windows – which I might
add is an excellent database system. I believe Precision should be praised
for continuing thier support of the Amiga!
The Superbase database is an innovative system, one of the most powerful
GUI-based database systems I am familiar with. I'm currently in the
progress of developing two applications with the Superbase DML language –
one based on the Amiga, and other based on the IBM version.

My vote goes to Quattro Pro too! muchnicer than Lotus, yet handles lotus
compatible files nicely!
