Just the other day when I booted up my machine, I got the message during startup that "Battery backed clock not found". I tried setclock reset but it still can't find my clock. Any ideas? —–< Chuck >—–

Chuck, You need either the WB1.2 version or the WB 1.3.2 version of the SetClock command. If you don't already have it, almost all of the WB1.3.2 update is here online. David

Thanksfor the reply David, but how did I lose my clock? I am using WB 1.3 and havve been since it came out. Where does the battery backed clock reside (file, address, etc)? Maybe I changed it or erased the data somehow. Thanks again, —–< Chuck >——

Chuck, Some program that you ran trashed the clock registers. I had this problem when I played certain ANIM's. There was a problem with the original 1.3 release version of SetClock, which is why you need to use either the 1.2 or 1.3.2 version of the SetClock command. SetClock RESET is the command to use. Then, set the time and date with any method of your choice (- I use AtomClock 8) and do a SetClock SAVE command. When I first ran across this problem, I thought that something was wrong with my clock, too. This procedure fixed right up. Hope this helps. 8) David

Chuck, The battery backed clock…obviously is a piece of hardware inside you Amiga. Among the several commands that it will accept is one to stop working. Errant programs can accidently set that condition. SetClock, before it reads the clock, checks to see if it is "ticking" and if it's not…it presumes it isn't there (such as in an unexpanded A500) and reports same. Unfortunately, in the 1.3 version of SetClock (but not the 1.2 or 1.3.2 versions), it performs the same check before it will do a reset (which will start it "ticking" again). Thus, if the clock is stopped, the 1.3 version of SetClock won't start it again….which is what the RESET option was supposed to do. Obviously not real smart of SetClock. That's why the 1.3.2 version exists…it fixes that situation. Don

Chuck, A year or so ago CBM came out with an update to 1.3 — it's 1.3.2 and is available in the Amiga UPDATES lib in this forum. You might consider downloading it. -sja
