You sort of implied that ImageMaster/IP will have different savers.
I'm in desparate need here of an awful TIF saver so I can take my greyscale
stuff to the Macintosh. We use PageBaker for the Macintosh to layout the
newsletter. Screens and such need to be applied over there and not mangled
in a IFF/MacPaint black and white transfer. I just refuse to buy the Art
Dept upgrade plus loader/saver for the TIF. Maybe you could "hint" at what
savers you're going to have?
If you've got PhotoShop, it can load 32-color (or less) IFF images, and
save them in many Mac-friendly formats. Other paint programs on the Mac
might be able to load IFF, too. Have you tried that?
My understanding is that Photoshop does not support the full 24 bit IFF
images. I have a friend who is a graphic's designer at Broderbund. She uses
Photoshop all day long and "back-ports" her images to VGA compatible
resolutions. She has horror stories to tell about hungry Alpha channels
gobbling all available Mac memory. Serves those Apple people right. Poor
lady has to work with that stuff.
We'll have all kinds, and Users/developers can make their own, too. I think
your needs will be taken care of with what's coming. I can't say much more
than that right now.

Got a flash that maybe Giffing it is the way to go. Once in Mac land it can
be degiffed and made into a tif which is what PageFaker loves.
Ok, good. Keep in mind that GIF's are limited to 256 colors max; GIF stands
for Graphics Inherently Fudged, you know. :^)
If PageMaker wants 256 colors, you're all set.

Unless I'm missing something, greyscale is 256 shades no? We aren't wealthy
enough for a four color layout.

By the way; did you DRAW that iguana??? If so, I am most humbly impressed

You know what? I whipped a 50% contrast on the entire image and really
liked the effect – try that and tell me what you think, ok?

Drew that Iguana alright. No digitizing while I did it. I do use lots
of clip fills from digitized whatever, his skin is greyscale spots
from a clip art book and other parts are from a close up of a
starfish. Never would you suspect!!! Not bitching about the jaggies
anymore – got the line work well blended in. I'm having a problem
with the contrast and the brightness 'cause I haven't seen those
chips yet??? God knows what it looks like without a blue wash over
the whole thing. For the newsletter, 256 greyscale tiffs look much
better xeroxed then starting with a dithered Macpaint port. So if
Gif makes 256 greyscale or I can get their via Ham-E, then my art
director can Giffer them on her MacII and then apply the screens.
Can't afford linos or plates for each page so we do what we can.
Chips are on the way. The Iguana looks excellent, but a little washed out,
I think. THe contrast fixed that right away. It's fabulous work. We're real
proud of you! We show you to *everyone* (well, your work. :^)
We should have you all running again within a day or so.

Do whatever you want with it contrast wise. I have two 1084 monitors and
they are quite different. One is definitely more brilliant than the other.
I have friends with Sonys, Necs whatever and some of those monitors are
really weird, green black backgrounds etc. Since I build up the image from
the blends, going conservatively, its hard to get the contrast where you
want it. Go to far with no undo and its hard to go back. More memory fixes
some of that but sometimes if I'm working with lots of backgrounds I can't
afford the undo button.
If a solution as complete as ADPro is not within your budget, then I would
point you towards several IFF to TIF converters of various limited degrees
to be found on Fish Disks.

Ah, there are several that I know are on Fish disks…but I don't have
detailed aquarium information at my finger tips. Certainly you could do
what you need with PBM which is on fish disks as well as being resident in
the Amiga forum's libraries.
