#Integer problem in SB
6 messages in this thread
I do have some kind of a problem with SBPro4 it's 'request 20' and a
datafile. I call the 'Request 20' and it shows me the two entries I want to
see for selection. Only one of them (an integer variable) sahll get stored
in the integer field I tell it to. Ok, I have to stip off all parts of the
string I do not need (it took me very long to find out that all shown
fields of the record get stored in the field). Then I have to convert the
rest of the selected string ino numbers – this one works as well. But then:
I can not tell the 'request 20' or a command to strip off the two digits
behind the integer incl. the colon. Whatever I do I recieve e.g. '12.00'
including the two zeros. The field in which I do want to store the number
is Integer and does not accept the colon and the two zeros. NO error gets
reported but the things SBPro does while store the record are totaly wrong
and I can't track it more down.
There are a number of things you can do to get an integer value:
1. Use the INT function. e.g. a% = INT(value)
2. Use an explicit integer field/variable. e.g. a%% = value
The value is then _guaranteed_ to be an integer. If you display it and you
still get e.g. 12.00, it's because you have the default numeric display
format set to display two trailing decimals. Solution: change it. Remember
that unless you specifically tell SB how to display a number (e.g. ?
&5.0a%), it will use the default format, which may give you trailing zeros.
Ok, I'll give it a try.. hope to hear from you soon regarding the umlaut
bug with the lower case -> upper case tranformation of "u (if you're
familiar with TeX).

Oh, I remember another one: I do own an A3000/25 w/ 18 MB RAM. Whatever I
do, I can not set the printer to another position than PREFS. I can not
change anything – everything is ghosted in the SBPro4 'set printer'
requester.

To use the custom printer facilities, you need to have installed the custom
printer files in S: (SB_printername.ini). Some samples are provided (and
should be appropriately installed by SETUP). They are plain text files so
are easy to create/modify. Superbase will put any of these files it finds
into the SET PRINTER dialog, then only if one of these "drivers" is
selected will the various page options – margins, font etc be available.

Michael,
The only time that all of the items on the line should be stored in the
results field/variable is when the items on the line come from arrays
instead of a file. If everything is storing to the results field/variable
when the list is coming from a file, then there is something wrong. I will
try and check into it.
Ciao, Neil
Thanx Neil,
hoping for your real soon' answer.
