Hi – I read your request and as it turns out – I've got the
Speed Racer theme on CD. I digitized it in pieces (my
digitizer only can do a 9 second chunk of sound at a
time – thanks Mimetics). The theme is 71 seconds long,
and the resulting lharc file will take 49 min. for me
to upload (and you to download!) at 2400 baud. I can
do it if you want, or just sample a certain part, or
you can get the CD for about $19 — its called
Televisions Greatest Hits 70s & 80s (TVTD1300) on
TeeVee Toons Compact Disc. Or did you really mean
you wanted a MIDI sequence of the song (sorry, my
synth doesn't have a good motorcycle patch)!

Thanks. Turns out I have the sampled theme song. I plan to upload it next
chance I get.
Ummmm… I hate to be a stick in the mud, but wouldn't sampling a theme
song off a CD, and then uploading it be construed as 'copyright' violation?
? Someone wrote the tune, recorded it, etc…. they have rights, you know.
Am raising this point (re sampled songs) because I haven't seen it raised
here yet. Have seen plenty of discussion of artwork, but none of sound.
Questions: is it a copyright violation to sample/upload the whole tune?
what about just a fragment? Anyone know where the line is drawn?
I know that on all uploads you are supposed to verify that you have the
right to upload it, but I assume the Sysops check for flagrant problems?
(if only to prevent CIS liability issues)

Copyright protection for non-commercial use of digitized sound and
images are a very fuzzy area. They might be covered under the
non-commerical "fair use" clause of the copyright law, and again, they
might might not. This issue will have to be resolved in the courts
eventually. In the meantime, the forums take the position that the proof
of rights rests directly upon the uploader which is why the warning text is
displayed before every upload.
Oops –
I know it SOUNDS stupid — but I forgot!!! Yes, I agree, uploading a
sample of the complete song would probably be a violation of copyright law!
I'm wondering if MIDI sequences fall under the same law — if I perform a
copyrighted song in a bar, the owner has to reimburse the publisher
(ASCAP,BMI,etc.) who eventually reimburses the composer…. wouldn t
wouldnt this apply to MIDI data as well? Just sort of curious how the law
will be spelled out in the next few years….
