Ok… I'm a little confused here… Is there or is there not a Video
Toaster for the IBM? Kevin's first message said he had a toaster AND a
Matrox Illuminator. That led me to think that there IS a Toaster for the
IBM but then you tell me that the toaster is only for the amiga…
Sheesh.. can someone clear me on this one?
Aaron,
I have neither of those units. We're talking about separate
components available in the marketplace. I have evaluated the Illuminator
and chose to go with the Targa+, a product that delivers 32-bit display
(which the Illuminator does not), and provides many of the other features
that originally made the Matrox seem like a step above the older Targa 16.
See my other message re: the Amiga Video Toaster.

Yes I think you got a little confused. I am the one that has both the
Toaster and the Iluminator. I use the Toaster in my Amiga 2000 and the
Iluminator in my PC.
There is no such thing as a "Toaster for the IBM / PC" What Newtek is doing
is selling an Amiga 2000 with the Toaster already installed. You can
supposedly control the Toaster from your Mac or your PC. Darn if I see how
that makes sence. I use the Toaster for the switcher effects and the
Character Generator. I use the PC ( a 486-33) with the Iluminator for 3D
graphics.
I have never put my Toaster's output up against mega buck professional
switchers but I cannot see any " lower quality " on it's output. The bottom
line is, if you can afford 20K and up for DVE / Switchers by all means buy
them! If your like me I can't. This is a hobby not my profession. Therefore
my investment amounts to less than 10K for the complete system.
Thanks for clearing everything up. Yeah, It's also my hobby, not my
profession either. I definitely don't have the megabucks for DVE or a
Targa. I'll probably just wait until prices come down and/or newer better
stuff comes out and/or I get the money. Until then… Who knows?
