Will ANI PRO operate in the standard 16 colors of VGA 640 x 480. I know the video board has to support that – but I would like to use that mode as all my work ends up in that mode – standard VGA not SVGA. It would be nice if I could bypass the conversion process… Thanks Tom

Animator Pro works only in 256-color VGA modes. It does not operate in 16 color modes. – Jack

Thanks for the reply! One other thing. The DESQVIEW folks say as long as I stay in 16 color mode I should have no problem otherwise I'm on my own. When I switch back to ANI Pro from another window the screen gets corrupted and often freezes up. Have you folks tried using DesqView? -tom

I haven't. Maybe Gary has. Animator Pro likes to have all the memory it can get and doesn't respond well to other programs sharing the RAM pool. It's a little selfish that way. Probably has something to do with having to animate all those hi-res pixels <g>. – J

The inability to save and switch back to 256-color screens is a long-standing limitation in DESQview. There have been some hints that either their forthcoming DESQview/X product, or a future version of DV itself that borrows DV/X driers, may solve this — but right now, AAPro and DV task-switching don't mix.

Yes Thomas, we have used Desqview and it does exactly what you say. AA Pro does not support any 16 color modes. There is nothing we could do on our end without limiting the functionality of AA Pro by depriving it of the 386 Dos Extender. We do have an animation product that does operate under Desqview and Windows. Its called Autodesk Animator. ~ -GB-
