#Hi-8 Capture

>>> What do you use yours [Illuminator-16] for? <<<
Much the same. I'm also running the oh-so-promising nonetheless disappointing
Personal Producer software. I bought it thinking, "well, if this don't work,
for $3K Canadian, I can always upgrade." Later next year, I'll probably take
that option. I agree with you on PP being good value for the nickel; I'm just
going to have to spend a couple more of 'em to get what I want.
In the meantime, I'm concentrating on learning the medium. I've always wanted
to cut tape, or film, and now I'm figuring out the realities. And, as you
noted, PP enables education quite effectively. ;-|
I'm acquiring images through Hi-8, SVHS and slide film (transferred to
Photo-CD), and edit on SVHS. I do some image capture using the illuminator,
but its primary purpose is to drive Personal Producer.
Do you use Tempra for image capture? Or have you found a better program than
the nasty DOS beast? Do you use Inscriber CG for titling?
Patrick.
I don't use Tempra at all. I tried it a few times – it doesn't display
properly on my monitor (TV) and parts of the menu are always off in never never
land on the edge of the screen.
I haven't found anything better for capture than the DOS beasty – but I haven't
really looked. It is inconvient in that I have to run it from DOS with Ilum 16
set up in a special mode.
For titling I use Picture Publisher 4.0 (PP4) – I'm considering upgrading to
5.0. That way I can use any Windows font – Inscriber CG pricing for additional
fonts is out of my range.
PP4 is also useful for splitting the captured image into 4 separate images and
sizing them to fit the screen properly. (My DOS Beasty captures 4 pictures at
a time in a massive 2MB file.) I have a macro in PP4 that does it
automatically – or capturing this way would be to much trouble.
Maybe we should start a thread "Illuminator 16 and Personal Producer"?
Ken,
Inscriber now supports the importing of True Type fonts which are much
more inexpensive and readily available, no?

Guess my copy of Inscriber is old. Mine runs in DOS – if it imports TT fonts,
it's news to me.
Thanks for the hint – I'll look into it.
Ken
What is the pricing on Illum 16 ?
Pat –
A thread "Personal Producer" has been started in the "Editing and Editors"
section – as a result of our discussion.
Hope you'll join it.
Ken
Pat –
Sorry – somehow I missed the fact that you started the thread.
I've got to get used to checking To: and From: – instead of just dashing off
replies.
:-} (is that a "grinace")
