#Questions re: VB Tools?

Hi Mark – I've followed some of the messages about VBTools on this ofrum
and have ordered and received the ($5) demo diskette, which I haven't even
tried out yet, since I haven't yet loaded VB itself (right now I'm still
fooling around with & enjoying ToolBook). I am definitely a "novice"
programmer, not having done any "real" programming since school; my PC use
has been with a wide range of spreadsheet, presentation, Windows, and other
applications since then, not programming languages, but I'm eager to get
back in the water and have invested in ToolBook, VB, OV, TPW, some books,
and Paradox to give myself a beginners programming environment (Also will
probably go for QuickC for Windows; I DO plan, for now, to stick in the
Windows environment.)
VB Tools sounds very interesting; I'm curious about the v. 2.0 & "muscle"
editions mentioned on this forum. I'd be inclined to order the top of the
line version NOW if it's not to costly, so I'll have it on hand when I get
around to trying to use VB in a few weeks. My general preference is to buy
software on 3.5" diskettes (putting my $5 fee for the demo toward the
charge) rather than D/L from a bulletin board, which can be costly and
sometimes unreliable. Please send me, openly or privately or by mail (since
you've got me registered for the demo disk) full details on v. 2 & "muscle"
so I can decide whether to order in advance – or join the BBS if that's
truly the best route to go.

Thanks for asking!
First, let me clarify one thing. MicroHelp Muscle is a separate product – it
is not a part of VBTools, nor is it a superset or anything like that.
A pre-requisite for our early access program for VBTools 2.0 is that you
have version 1.0. You can join the early access program up until a few weeks
before we ship 2.0 (scheduled for January 1992).
The early access program is availble only through our BBS – we don't have a
"disk" option. The reason is simple – we'll be coming out with an average of
1 or two new controls per week for the rest of this year.
Here's a list of the new controls that are already available for download:
1. MhIconTag. Enhanced list box that allows using icons/bmps *and* text.
(You can see an example of this in the Muscle demo).
2. MhPicture. Displays 256-color bmps and .PCX files.
3. MhTool. Toolbox (just like VB's) and Toolbar (similar to WFW) control.
4. Mh3dButton. Extension of existing button control, with more features.
5. MhSpin. Spin control.

Mark – I am interested in joining the MicroHelp BBS. Please tell me how –
and how to d/l v. 1.0, other procedures, etc. (Is there an explanatory file
on this forum I can download?) I sure hope your BBS isn't located a big
toll call away – I live in Brooklyn, NY (718). Thanks for any info. You
sure are getting rave reviews around here – and some raving in general, I
guess.

Private BBS where you can download the "latest and greatest" versions of
products for which you are a registered user.
It is a toll call to the BBS, but by calling at night you can save $$$.
Also, PC-Pursuit (I believe it's a GTE service) is $25 per month flat rate
and you can call any BBS in the country as often as you like!
I really like the "rave reviews", but I could do without the "raving in
general"! <smile>
