#New Sony CD bundle

Just saw an ad in the paper today describing the Sony "Dustless Library"
that is 6 CD's and covers hundred of topics and areas. No price given and
no mention of which CD player is in the package. Has anyone else seen this?
If so can you describe what all is in it and what it is selling for?

It sounds like the Sony Laser Library. The model is CDU-7205 (external)
with a bunch of titles (Mammals, MS Bookshelf, etc.). Access time is 340ms.
Meets MS Multimedia specs. Installed it myself over the weekend – very
easy, quick, sounds great. Already have it hooked into my stereo system.
The price at Circuit City was 599!. Have seen the same prices in Computer
Shopper, etc. Haven't used it much yet, but from what I've seen…highly
recommended.

Greg, If you wouldn't mind? There are supposed to be 6 CD's in this set. Is
that how many you got? Would you mind listing the titles or contents on the
six CD's? Thanks very much. You say it IS ready for the next generation of
multimedia? Does it use carriers or is it a front load? Have you seen the
package in any major magazines that I might have access to? Sorry for all
the questions. Are these easy to move from one computer to another or must
you take off the case and unplug a board?

P.S. – The Sony drive was also the only one to win the PC Mag Editor's
Choice in the forthcoming issue. As they said (and you might have some
contrary opinions from someone), "You can not lose buying a Sony."

No problem with the questions. The PC Mag just came Fri night – if you
don't have a subscription, it may be a week or so before it hits the
'stands. The issue is Oct 29, Vol 10 Num 18. I'm 99.9% sure it is ready for
the wonderful world of multimedia (it'd better be…). I'll have to get
home and upload the titles, but there are 6 – a partial list would be:
National Geographic Mammals
Microsoft Bookshelf
Compton's Family Encyclopedia
Some Mother Goose title
…….and I forget the others. Will upload if I can tonight.

Greg, It must be ready for multimedia since the Mammals disk is about as
multimedia as anybody gets these days! I also bought the Sony set yesterday
but haven't set it up yet, been too busy at work. My salesman convinced me
that the caddies are the Phillips license standard for multimedia and that
any CD-Roms that don't have it are either older models that are being
dumped or were at least produced before the standard was adopted by the
majors. If he's right, then we're in good shape. Seems to be the same
external drive that DAK is selling only much chceaper with the Sony brand
name. That's a switch. Ha! I'll let yoiu know what I think when I get it up
and running. Like their bundle very much only my kids are a little old for
Mother Goose!

Glad to hear you got the drive. Did you mean to say that the DAK package
is MORE expensive than the Sony bundle?

And then some! They don't compare exactly but I paid $549 for the Sony
Package and I believe the Dak external drive package (with same Sony drive)
was $699.

Yes, the DAK package is more expensive, but you get a different better?)
set of discs. The dak package includes World Atlas, US atlas, groliers
encyclopedia, languages of the world, library of the future, and the
toolworks reference library.
I have the Dak package. In my opinion, the two atlases are throw-aways.
The rest of are all pretty good, if you find you'll use them.
