#GVP 030 and IDE – HELP!

Help! My new IDE drive on my 25 mhz GVP '030 board won't prep
(non-auto-boot)! I have no 32-bit memory, and an existing SCSI drive. I
checked all the jumpers (this is a rev 7 GVP board), and made sure the
GVPAT file was in the boot drive expansion drawer, and nade sure to "
binddrivers ". Yet, when I go to prep the drive (with Faaastprep, V 1.95),
it gives ma an "Unable to open 'gvpat.device' " message, and will not prep!
Any suggestions? -Ed
Ed,
Make sure that not only is gvpat (probably should be in all lower
case) is in your expansion drawer, but that gvpat.info is also in there.
BindDrivers requires the .info file exist.

Will the IDE even work without memory on the GVP card? -bill – via Whap!
I have no 32 bit memory; IDE still doesn;t work. I've talked with GVP
twice, and it sounds like I have everything OK. Still can't get it to go,
and I have pulled the machine apart a dozen times! I don't know if the IDE
drive is good; next I will try to test on another machine THX!

My question was really the other way around. GVP says that the IDE
interface will work even if you DON'T have any 32 bit memory on the card?

Yes. GVP end user tech support told me that it will work w/ or w/o 32 bit
mem. I am going to my dealer tomorrow to try to disect more fully piece by
piece, i.e., confirm the drive is ok, the accelerator is ok, etc.
Otherwise, I am still struggling! -Ed
Ed,
If you have access to another IDE drive cable, you might also give that a
try. (spoken from an experience I had trying to get an IDE drive to work
on the bridge side. 😉
Have you been able to verify the jumpers on the drive itself? I know that
there's a file in one of the IBM forums that contains Seagate IDE drive
parameters and jumper configurations, if that information might help you
out a bit.

Thx for message…I verified the jumpers on the card AND drive, and tes the
cable on another machine…oh well! -Ed
