I'm having i little problem getting set up is CIS, having joined a month or so ago.I downloaded JR_COMM and don't seem to be able to download correctly now. I'm using compuserve B+ protocol but on inputting my filename I just get a line of square zero and other odd characters.I'm logging on with 7E1 as the manual says which allow me to perform ascii capture in a readable form, but this does seem to stop downloads. Any Ideas?? I was using handshake (a vt100 emulator) for the original downloads but swapped as I want to use WHAP! and Handshake had tis problem with ascii capture. Thanks Matt

Matthew, Binary files require 8 bit — set JRCom to 8N1. -sja

Steve is there any way to get JR_COMM to do this automatically? – Also at what stage should I reset to 8N1? I tried after having activated B+ protocol but this just dropped me back to 'Press any key' Thanks Matt

Matthew, Check the documentation for JRCom and make 8N1 the default.

Matt, Please ignore the 7E1 suggestion in the manual and use 8N1 instead. I use it all the time, and everything works – text and downloads as well. In fact, you MUST have 8N1 to download, and I'm pretty sure changing to that will solve your problem. Betty

Betty, Thanks for the suggestion – I've tried it and it works fine! Perhaps this will teach me NOT to believe manuals!!?! Cheers Matthew

Betty, I've been using 7E1 with JRcomm for well over a year. That's how I set up the program initially, and since it works I've never bothered to change it. DLs work fine. On most other BBSes I log onto I do use 8N1 tho. -Dave-
