I'm confused. Recently I downloaded a gif viewer called display. I've tried it at work — basic vga card and monitor — with great results. I took it home — much more advanced system SVGA non-interlaced w/diamond viper card — and tried with marginal results. Some images display just fine while others that work just fine at work cause the screen to go screwy the power light on the monitor (Socos) goes from green to yellow and I hear a squeel from the monitor. Sometimes the machine locks up and I have to reboot! What's going on?

Walt, My guess is that your video card thinks that your monitor can do things that it cannot. Look and see if you have some sort of monitor setup software that came with the VGA card and try and figure out which monitor best matches the specifications of the monitor that you actually have. -John
