#The Next Imagine???

Hi,
Does anyone have ANY idea of the estimated date of release of the next
version of Imagine? I'd even be interested in rumors. I plan to wait for
about six weeks before purchasing Imagine, but I'd hate to buy it and then
find out the following week that the next verion was released (and I'd have
to pay a signicant amount for an upgrade to my one week program>!

Well, I've heard that the new version is already out. However I still
have yet to receive ANY sort of info from Impulse concerning this topic.
I'll find out if the rumor is true in a few days or so.

That's interesting! I hope that you are right. I've been waiting for
someone here to discuss new info from last weekend's AmiExpo (like Word
Perfect planning a 5.x Amiga port). It would be nice to hear that Imagine
2.0 is shipping!

Ok, I have the info now. As of slightly before Christmas, Imagine 2.0
will be shipping. The upgrade price will be around $100.00. More info on
the product will be discussed in the next newsletter. They do say however
that it will come with a VERY COMPREHENSIVE USERS GUIDE. About time….

OUCH thats a fairly Hefty Upgrade price.Any idea what improvements there
will be other than the manual? Also what newsletter are you reffering to? I
also have not a heard a peep outta Impulse concerning an upgrade to Imagine
I hope they recieved my Regestration card.
They didn't say much about the product. It will be covered in the next
newsletter. And for your info, this was brought to me via the September
newsletter. About the only other thing they said was that to buy the
Imagine 2.0 new, it would cost around $500. Quite the jump in price.
Hopefully it's filled with a lot of goodies!

Please, when any news of Imagine 2.0 surfaces, post details here on
compuserve. As far as I know, nobody outside of North America has ever
received one of Impulse's newsletters.

their very own library.

I hope Imagine 2.0 has Better docs and a quicker rendering engine BTW which

Well all, I hold in my hand a copy of the latest Impulse Newsletter (the
Imagine Gazette, no less!)…. deliverd to my mail today.
I don't want to be accused of 'rumoring', so I'll quote directly from the
newsletter:
"When you ask? As close as we can get is to say that is (sic) should be
out before Christmas. How much? You cringe with fear. The final price
will be announced at the time of release but at the moment it looks like
the upgrade price for Imagine 2.0 will be about $100.00. The next
newsletter will deal almost exclusively with 2.0 the price and final
features will all be set and discussed at that time." (note: in paragraph
above they do say that it will retail for around $500.)
Newsletter has other interesting stuff too. I'd expect all should have it
shortly.

I hope this Imagine 2.0 has several new features so that it can maintain
some semblance of dignity when compared with Lightwave! Have you seen all
that Allen Hastings is planning, or already offers? Soft shadows, depth of
field, fractal noise, realistic fog/clouds/smoke/fire, and the list goes on
and on.

I hope so too. I doubt if they'll let us down, since they have almost
always been pushing the rendering edge in Amiga stuff. I look forward to
the release!

Have you also noticed that there are very few help questions and
compendiums for Lightwave? So much power and extremely intuitive. I don't
even know where the docs are. They are very well done, but just not needed.
Trying to figure out how to use Imagine has become a career for some
people, even a buiseness for others.

Fog Clouds and smoke would Be Awesome
May I ask where you herd about the light wave up-date? I heard Allen
Hastings Speak about Light Wave about a year ago, and he said all those
things about clouds and fog and he even showed some fire. Allthese things I
can do with a little Imagination. But I would love for them to be a
function. Your message sounded as though you are a Light Wave fan. I,
myself am very disapointed with the program, so I am very anxious for an
up-grade…. I appreiciate any info Brad Hayes P.S. The new Imagine is
Rumered to run about $500. retail with the up-grade at about $100. that's
no typo….

I'm a Lightwave fan only in the sense that it seems to do a whole lot of
nifty things which are almost impossible to do in Imagine, or that come out
looking totally fake and plastic. I don't own the program, as I have no use
for a Video Toaster. I'm strictly an Imagine man. The list of possible
features comes from a Usenet message found in the IMAR*.LZH archives in
AmigaArts or AmigaUser.

Thanks for the info. Geez… $500 suggested retail, I wonder what that
translates to in mail order pricing?
Maybe it pays to buy this version and wait to upgrade? I'll have to
contemplate on this one…

I'd be surprised to hear that Imagine 2.0 is out already since they had
stopped work on it for some time to get Foundation released. The only date
I had heard at the time was "end of the year", but I suppose that could
have changed.
WP said at AmiExpo that they were done with the Amiga port but weren't
releasing it due to CBM not delivering on something (though I don't know
what). Hopefully, that logjam will break soon (whatever it is).
If you're willing to work at it, Imagine is an amazing program – lots of
fun.

Thanks for the info. It's a big "bummer" that WP has a port available,
butrefuse to ship it. Being rather cynical I assume the thing that C=A
didn't give WP is MONEY. I hope that the situation changes, I keep seeing
pictures of WP's Window version and would really like to see it on my
Amiga!!!

Be aware that WP's work on the Amiga version does not necessarily
parallel exactly the version on the Cloner's. Most likely, our next version
won't have exactly what's in the latest version of Messed-Dos, but will
also likely have a few things they DON'T have.
So you may or may not see a screen on your Amiga that looks like those
Windows shots.

I hope that there will be a word processor for the Amiga that has the
aesthetics, and power, of what WP 5.x for Windows appears to be!
