Martin, Pardon me for jumping in late on this one but I have been doing a little experimenting here with morph materials. I set up a very simple scene with a ball that morphs from basketball size to ping-pong ball size. It casts a shadow on the wall via a ray-traced spotlight at default values. The beginning material is red phong (vanilla). The ending material is white transparent. With no movement in the scene except the morphing ball I couldn't even get the shadow to change size, let alone dissappear. Next I made the ball bounce on the floor as it morphed. Now the shadow changes in size but it still doesn't dissappear as the ball does. -Lee

Lee, >> I couldn't even get the shadow to change size, let alone dissappear.<< Bizarro! If you think you have a reproducible case you should e-mail the zipped project with a short text file on the steps to recreate the problem to Jonas.

No comment on morph materials that still cast shadows from ray-traced spots? Try this. 1. Create a sphere. 2. Create a copy of the sphere (I used Shift/Move) to use as a morph object in the exact same location. 3. Direct one ray-traced spot at the ball. 4. Throw in a wall to cast shadows on (finger puppets if you will <g>) 5. The two materials were: a. Ambient: black Diffuse: 100% red Specular: black b. Ambient: black Diffuse: 100% white Specular: black Transparency: 100% As I morph/materials over 30 frames the ball disappears and the shadow does not. -Lee

Martin, I apologise, I was wrong about one thing. In the test where the object doesn't move, but morphs smaller the shadow does shrink appropriatly but the shadow still doesn't disappear as the material morphs to transparency. -Lee
