#1950 monitor jumps again

I have a 3000 with a 1950 monitor. I am now getting the jumping screen again. I have 2.04 loaded, but I think that this has started up since loading it. ie, I think it was OK for a while after loading it. This happened many moons ago and I don't recall doing anything to correct it, it just stopped. I have tried different monitors in the WBstartup drawer (NTSC, Multiscan) and played around with the screen mode, and the controls on the monitor to no avail. I've turned other equipment off that is on the same line with no sucess. I remember a thread on this topic ages ago. Was there any resolution? Is it a line voltage problem? Any comments would be appreciated, this is getting very irritating, especially when I'm working on something late and have strained eyes anyway. Neill

Neill, The problem is inherent in the 1950 — not much you can do so solve it other than adjust the horizontal or vertical screen position when it happens. This will solve the problem for a few minutes or a few days. -sja

Steve, It is not a single jump followed by stability at the new position, it is a jittery sort of continuous jumping. The amount (vertical only) varies from 1 to 10's of mm. I sometimes feel it may be related to CPU busy-ness. BTW, it is not happening at this time, I just noticed. I loaded up three WP documents and a spell check to test the CPU busy-ness, no jumping. Neill, I know exactly what it is (I also have a 1950). The problem is a well documentated problem with the 1950. The temporary cure is to adjust the vertical or horizontal positioning of the display via the right side controls. Other than this, I know of no other fix or technical data sheet from CBM on how to permanently correct this flaw.

Steve, While were on the subject of 1950s….. How should those side adjustments be set?? Text = on or off?? H.size = on or off?? And should these every be changed?? Thanks Same time same place……… Greg

Steve, yeah I figured I could "set them in whatever position I wanted"…. But that was not the question. I wanted to know how YOU had yours set!<G> or how about this. How does EVERYONE out there have the H.Size, and Text stwitches set on their 1950s?? Thanks in advance..I hope. Same time same place……… Greg

Both switches on my 1950 are pushed towards the back of the monitor (away from the screen).

Vic, Thanks for the reply. Have you tried turning the H.Size on?? if so, what did you think of it? and why have you chosen to leave it off? Thanks….I have never really seen any Docs or anything that tell you how they should be set, so I was just wondering. Same time same place……… Greg

Greg, The main reason I leave the H.Size switch where it is, is that I like the scanlines to go all the way across the screen. When I turn it 'on' (if forward means 'on') I get black borders down both sides.

Vic, Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean about the "side black borders"……at first I didnt like them, but now I do. BTW, I did find a manual, and it does save that the Hsize should be ON for the amiga. But it doesnt matter what the manual says, you run it the way it looks best to you.!<G> The the letters do seem to look better from other fonts, if you have the Hsize on……but who knows!<G Same time same place……… Greg
