I bought KQ5 at Christmas for my eleven year old daughter … my wife (who
is an international lawyer) spent about 30 hours over the next months
playing it. It is graphically brilliant, fiendishly difficult and enormous
fun. Basically its about a guy whose family and castle get spirited away
by the usual wicked magician. To get it back involves dozens of
encounters, hundreds of screens and lots of tricks. It drives people crazy
and addicts them. All very good, very clean fun … our infant children
love watching it. The CD ROM version is the same game but with (I guess)
smoother video and proper audio instead of the dialogue boxes. We have
good music with the Sound Blaster already, the audio would make this close
to multi-media heaven by existing standards.

John, PC-Magazine, highly respected over here for their objectivity, gave
the Sony package their "Editor's Choice" which is equivalent to a "best
buy" from Consumer Reports. To quote from their ratings, "The Sony CDU-7205
delivers the best value of the drives we tested….the CDU-7205 is the best
choice for a personal CD-ROM drive." The whole article is very
worthwhile,Vol. 10, Number 18, dated October 29, 1991 and titled, " CD-ROM
Drives…Finally Up To Speed." The MS standard is discussed in detail and
14 of the CD-ROM's evaluated meet the very lenient specs of the MS
multimedia standard. I take that back the Radio Shack model, TAndy CDR-1000
was far too slow to meet the standard but I think RS may have it's own
programs that do work on it. You should get a copy of the article. Very
good and also has a good listing an evaluation of CD-ROM programs that are
available. Thanks for the tip on KQ5, I have the CD-Rom version backordered
through a dealer so hope to get a copy by Christmas, although I understand
it isn't even shipping yet. The Mother Goose disk included with the Sony
bundle is also a Sierra product and is as excellent as you describe the KQ5
to be. I don't have a sound card but playback stereo audio directly through
a large Sony boombox that is on the hutch slelf right above my computer.
Sounds are CD quality, of course, and are recorded very well! Have you
experience with any of the other Sierra products like Stellar 7 or Space
Quest 4? They are also listed in the catalog as available in CD-ROM
although may not be out yet. BTW I bought the Sony package for $549, but I
believe it was a delaers price to a dealer, since I am a dealer of sorts
for various audio/video gear. Street price on the unit from J.& R. Music
World in New York is $589. Better grab one if you plan on having it for
Christmas. They'll be going fast!

thanks a lot. I'm coming over to the US next week and will be advance
ordering it this week thanks to your comments. I do remember reading that
issue of PC Magazine but couldn't recall which got the Editors Choice. No
knowledge of other Sierra games … the children will go wild over the
MUMG.

John, I'm curious as to what is cost to CIS from Switzerland? If you don't
mind sharing. Also, what network do you call in on? Are you connected to a
CIS node or some other communications network that then accesses CIS? I
know you'll be happy with the Sony package. If you are interested in the
