#CDROM in a Laptop

Anyone know of any? I'm about to hie myself to my Computer Select cdrom and
feed it the right keywords, but wondered if there were any experience with
a CDROM-equipped laptop on this forum? Or of any quick way of adding a
cdrom player to a laptop. Since most laptops are without either SCSI
adapters or slots to accommodate same, perhaps someone has figured a way to
get in through a parallel port or some such.

The best we have been able to come up with so far at Computer Library is an
NEC CDR-36 with a Trantor Parallel-to-SCSI kit which allows you to hook the
drive up to a parallel port.

Things to try for portable CDROM access:
1. just about any notebook with the Trantor parallel to scsi interface and
a portable drive like the NEC CDR 36
2. A machine with a built-in CDROM drive like the GRiD 1550cd or the new
Scenario/Dynavision machine
3. A notebook with an external cabled drive that does not require the
Trantor card, like the AT&T Safari and their new battery operated external
drive that plugs directly into the parallel port.
The options are increasing. But be sure to look carefully at features and
test the machine with applications you intend to use. Many notebooks won't
allow you to use an external monitor at the same time as the builtin LCD
display, and others differ in terms of the way they handle graphics and how
color is mapped to gray scale.
