Haven't noticed anything strange the last 2 days but I have some mail going
out to a board that I regularily forward to and will see what happens.

OK, if you are using "normal ax25" forwarding, then you will have to have
changed some of John's entries (appearently he does not do that).

I've checked out the mbox forwarding and it appears that the messages are
going out OK. I watched a scrambled trace then logged into the board and
read the message. The text was fine. A few fellows that were using the
chatnode said they didn't see any scrambled packets even though the screen
display of their text was quite jmbled. I tried dropping back to a 2 color
workbench (yech) but that didn't seem to help. Will have to try the
default serial port next. Has anybody tried the mbox sysop password. I've
tried it with a simple password of a and when presented with 0 0 0 0 0, I
responded aaaaa (and also a a a a a). I couldn't get into remote mode.
I've tried everything I can think of and couldn't get it to work. Any
ideas? Steve
I haven't tried it Steve but suspect that the password must be more than
four characters long.
Your screen display is jumbled? By that do you mean that an incomming
packet will print garbage (or even over print — ie: no linefeed)?

The header information is correct. The text displayed is jumbled. Its
possible that its not getting any linefeeds but its hard to tell. It only
seems to happen to longer packets. I'll try putting forty characters in
the password and see what happens. Steve
…or turn the password capability off altogether (though I doubt it is
part of the problem).
The new trace does not do line feeds but that is just so that each traced
packet takes up no more than 4 lines.

Can you give me a rundown on how your mail forwarding system works? I
tried to alias a friend, Barrie, with Barrie ve3aoi@ve3oy. Then in my
rewrite file I have *@ve3oy ve3oy. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work
when I use sp barrie. If I use sp ve3aoi@ve3oy then everything works and
the mail is delivered to ve3oy. It looks like the alias file is scanned
but the rewrite file is not?? Any ideas? Steve
Indeed Steve, I believe that it is the otherway around! The alias file is
NOT used but the rewrite file is (that is, if you are not using BM to
write your mail then the alias file is not used).
Hummm, forget all previous, just used search on Amiganos and I see that it
does know about the alias file. I don't use the alias file but will
likely start playing around with it since it does appear that aliases
should work.
Now to contend with a solution to your problem. I have a tcpip station
that I send messages to frequently (Mike kb4lfh). I have an entry in the
REWRITE file: "mike kb4lfh@kb4lfh.ampr.org". This seems to do the trick.
If I enter "s (or sp) mike", the "to line" shows kb4lfh@kb4lfh.ampr.org
and the message is forwarded to him by smtp.
The entry "*@ve3oy ve3oy" that you show would PREVENT you from posting
anything to any other station on his system (which I suppose that you may
want to prevent). In other words a "kb7lx@ve3oy" would end up as ve3oy,
with no reference to my call.

Hi Bill, when I use the *@ve3oy, the message is put into the ve3oy.txt mail
file. When it actually gets forwarded its sent to ve3oy as: s ve3aoi @
ve3oy < ve3sdj and the recipient gets the mail. I was hoping that all my
mail for people who pick up there mail at oy would be sent off to the oy
bbs with the wildcard. Could you upload a copy of your rewrite file so I
can get some ideas as to how it works. I've checked the manual and
unfortunately it doesn't really explain it to well. I 'll try and use the
rewrite file instead of the alias file. Possibly the alias file overides
the rewrite file. If an alias is used then rewrite isn't scanned? Thanks

ve3oy is a regular ax25 type bbs is it not? I'll upload mine but please
do the same as between us, we may both learn something about this system

Hi Bill, thanks for the files. I finally figured out my problem. To keep
the file readable, I used a tab in between the name and the rewrite name.
Apparently AmigaNOS interpreted the tab as a blank field. I changed the
tabs to spaces and everything is going out ok now. I have one question
about your rewrite file. What does the line: w4eat w4eat%n7iji@k4iww do?
Does it forward to k4iww first, then to n7iji? I see that by looking at
your forward file that must be the case. Does this automatically enter the
sp w4eat@n7iji for you at k4iww? On another note, can you send arexx
commands to AmigaNOS? I see the inclusion of the arexx command in the
amiga list but not sure if AmigaNOS has an arexx ort yet. I was thinking
of an arexx program that would scan the spool/mail file. Note any files
that has mail, change the beacon text to something like : AmigaNOS 2.9g.
Mail for: I guess you would have to execute the arexx script every hour or
so and make sure the people cleaned their mail out after reading. I'm
hoping somebody else will see some of our mail and jump in so we can find
out who is running AmigaNOS out there. I'm sure there's more than you, me
