YES, YES, YES! Are you listening, software developers? Please don't allow
desktop video and animation on the Amiga to become the Tower of Babel that
it could easily degenerate into. Look at the problems most other computers
have just using picture/graphic files generated by other packages; now look
at Amiga's IFF. We desperately need the same level of harmony and ease of
integration and manipulin the Amiga's emerging desktop video applications.
Ouch, that's a tough one when the track names aren't labelled! I know the
MT-32 more or less follows the general MIDI format, though. I forgot (if
you mentioned) what the sequence was; can you get back to the original
score?
I have no other information on these files, once in awhile I see a number
like #121 in a track name.

Those numbers come from the Instrument Table for the synth used to prepare
the original file – in this case the MT32 I believe? As the MT32 is
multi-timbral you have access to 128 instruments on each of the 16
channels. #121 on the MT-32 is Castanets. On the General Midi spec it is
Guitar GretNoise whatever that is. Your problem will be that neither the
MT-32 or the Korg use the GS standard. One thing to bear in mind is that
the MT-32 uses Channel 10 for its Drum Sets. The actual sound, eg, Bass
Drum, Snare or whatever is determined by the Midi note number played, so,
for instance note C3 will always play the Hi Tom. If your Korg uses a
different drum channel or note specs then you really have a problem! If you
would like the full MT-32 Instrument Table, let me know and I will EMail it
to you – a message on here will be a bit overlong. Just as a comparison,
Instrument 40 on the MT-32 is Funny Vox – on the GS Standard it's a Synth
Bass. You can get some quite horrendous sounds. To put these right you need
the Instrument Tables for both instruments and you need to know what
Instrument number the tracks on your Midifile are playing, unless you can
recognise the sound.

If you could E-mail me the instrument table for the MT-32 I would be very
grateful. This should get me a lot closer to a better sounding file.
For the drums, I can transpose the keys up or down, but I don't think I
can re-arrange the drum types. I'll see how close I get.
