Actually there are no immediate plans to support HotLinks. If enough of
our users want it, we will do it. I still would like to know how you plan
to use HotLinks with lets say ProWrite. Can you give me a couple of
examples of what you want to do?

I would like to also request that SoftWood support HotLinks on the Amiga.
I have got Pagestream V2.2 and have closely followed reviews/articles
regarding HotLinks. I do not as yet have HotLinks but soon intend
purchasing HotLinks Editions 1.1.
Firstly Woody, a user does not need to own Pagestream to reap the benefits
of HotLinks. The way I understand it is that HotLinks is a stand-alone
program which works on the Dynamic Data Exchange principle. I think you
have to own Hotlinks to use HotLinks in other programs. Even so, it is
not expensive and surely you can see that it will be great for users and
the Amiga platform in general. Finally we will have real multitasking
programs all using the same formats for text/graphics e.t.c.
Now one way I could use ProWrite with HotLinks is as follows. Firstly
though, I own a Program called GPFax for my Fax/Modem. What I do is type
up a document in Prowrite and load up GPFax. GPFax has its own printer
driver that redirects output from the printer and prints a fax picture to
disk for later transmission. Currently I have to Write my Fax either in
ProWrite or PageStream if I want good output. The latter is not
preferable because of slow screen updates and general lack of speed on my
computers behalf. (A500) If I had Hotlinks I could have a PageStream
predefined Fax Template.doc that I would use to link to either ProWrite or
the GPFax Fax.document. I could for example write my text in ProWrite
then link it into the Pagestream Template or I could go straight to GPFax
which in version 3.0 form will support HotLinks. If I make ANY changes to
the original text it can be automatically updated in the HOTLINKED files
as well, saving the user heaps of time.
Now, SoftLogik in the U.S. will offer the HotLinks developer pack free to
any developers wishing to implement HotLinks. Call SoftLogik.

FinalCopy works great with programs like GPFax. All you have to do is
create your document in FinalCopy and direct its output to GPFax. Not only
is the quality of the fax excellent, but you don't need several different
programs to do it.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am not saying that HotLinks is not a good
thing. I am simply looking for some examples of things that other programs
do now that they have HotLinks support, that FinalCopy can't already do. I
don't mind adding HotLinks support to our program, but I don't want it to
be the kind of feature that you put in just to say you've got it. There
are several other VERY important features that we are currently working on
that seem to be more important for a word processor to have than HotLinks.
Maybe we need to add HotLinks to our list of new features. If I do, I
would like to know real examples of benefits for doing so.

Let me put one vote in for stuff like footnotes/endnotes, indexing, table
of contents generation, and R/W compatibility with PC word processors
being MUCH more vital than Hotlinks. HotLinks support would be nice, but
those other features, IMHO, would be a lot more useful to a lot of
people.
The best example I can think of is this:
— You create a document with embedded graphics.
— When you're done, you delete the original grraphic files. Since they
are stored in the document, this isn't a major problem, until…
— You are revising said document, and need to make changes to the
graphic elements in the file. (As far as I know, DPaint IV doesn't do
clipboarding….)

already being implemented widely thru the Amiga community. We really need
to have JUST ONE format for this sort of thing to show those PC dummies
just what the Amiga can do. I feel that if you dont support HotLinks, and
don't take this as a threat please, your programs will be left behind on
the Scrap heap. (and they definitely don't belong there!!!)
Also, could you please chase up a technical support request regarding
FC1.3.2 and my GSX-140 Citizen Printer I sent to Terrance Wright via CIS
EMAIL. Haven't received a reply yet and the problem is really bugging
me.
Hope I didn't offend you with my 2 cents worth. Just wanted to let you
know how it can and will be used by me when I get it.

Uhm, those PC dummies already have OLE and DDE under Windows, and it's much
more prevalent there than HotLinks in the Amiga market. What were you going
to show them?
OLE is all well and good, but I don't think that an OLE embedded graphic
can be printed out in a document……

It's good to see the IBM have taken the AMIGA's lead!
Run a top shelf Amiga500 word-processor and a top-shelf IBM Windows WP in
a 1 MEG environment on a 386/40 and the Amiga still is just as good.
While the PC has been advancing over the last few years <Unfortunately>
the Amiga hasn't. But things will be changing soon……

Saving $ with AutoPilot
As I see it, more and more people are going to be supporting HotLinks…
It would be another nicety to have in FC. Also, GPFAX is supposed to
support HotLinks directly. Other major programs not yet named will also be
supporting HotLinks. I just don't think that SoftWood would wnat to be
left out on this one. The developers tools are free from what I understand
and easy to implement. You guys should seriously look at it.
