I just installed a 24X and everthing is fine for rendering an animation except when I try to animate a 640X480. The .flc come out in about a 4×5 array with a portion of the animation running in each cell. I have disabled everthing ecept what is absolutely necessary set up 3ds for straight vga and still the same results. Any ideas? Mark P.

Mark, I remember seeing that too when I used one. I don't have any good advice unfortunately, except to say that the .flc is OK it's just something going on with the card. I think when it happened to me, I saved a project, quit, reloaded 3ds, loaded the project and tried again. Everything was OK for a while and then it happened again. You might consider contact Diamond to see if they have a driver upgrade or else consider buying a full set of drivers from one of the following companies: Panacea: (800)729-7420 or (603)437-5022 Vibrant: (800)937-1711 or (512)250-1711 These folks actually seem to write the ADI drivers that are included with most cards anyway. Good luck. Martin

Martin, I tried Vibrant's and had the same problem. Panacea's isn't available yet. This also happens with no ADI drivers loaded. I talked with Diamond's tech support and that was like talking to the wall. This will be my last SpeedStar and I will no longer recomend any Diamond products to my clients. Jake Bayt at Vibrant was very helpful and is checking into the problem. Thanks for the reply. Mark P.

Intersting thread, as I was about to recommend a SpeedStar to the company I contract with. What are you using (or considering) as an alternative if this one is to be your last? I am fairly unfamiliar with high end display boards and frmae buffers and am trying to gather as much info as I can. Thanks, Chris Barnes

Martin, Not that I'm an appologist for Diamond, but there is a very helpful Diamond Rep. over in the GRAPHSUPPORT forum. He has been helping many programers in that forum who are trying to add 24X support to their applications. I'm afraid that I can't remember his name, but if you check out any of the Diamond threads on that forum, he's bound to pop up. Could probably help with your problem as well. Steven

Are you running the VESA driver in 3DS or in the ADI P386 driver we supply? I have not seen any problems to that extent in my use of our P386 driver (by Panacea) and 3D Studio 2.0. However, it does happen when using VESA. We are in contact with Mark Sage of AutoDesk regarding this problem. At this time, there's no clear decision if the problem resides in software or hardware. I just bounced this problem off another person and he happened to be talking to Mark about the very same thing <small world> 🙂 Have you seen any difference if you use the VESA.EXE file before loading 3DS? -Jeff Orr Product Marketing Diamond Computer Systems, Inc.
