#Drive names {50MB}

Can anybody tell me how to get rid of the partition sizes that are included
in device names for hard disk partitions? For example, how can I get my
boot partition to be called DH0: rather than DH0{58MB}: ?
Having just re-partitioned my hard disk, I find that many of my programs
don't work because they need (for example) drive DH0{49MB}: and refuse to
accept that DH0{58MB} is the same partition.

If I'm reading this right, you just want to relabel your drive partitions'
names correct? Then if your using the Workbench select the partition with
the mouse click and use the rename from the ICON menu. I'm suspecting that
your using a GVP controller, because I've seen that labeling before.
If your not using the WB, then use the RELABEL command from CLI/SHELL
RELABEL DH0xxx: newname:

Now why didn't _I_ think of just renaming the partitions? You're right, I
do have a GVP controller. When I upgraded my system, I upgraded from WB
1.3 to 2.04 as well as upgrading the hard disk hardware, and I just assumed
that the peculiar names were due to WB 2.04
I've just relabelled the partitions and the names have survived a reboot so
I should be OK now, once I get the software updated.

Just rename the partition as you would a floppy disk, or you could use
ASSIGN DH0{49MB}: DH0{58MB}.

"RENAME" changes Volume names not drive names. HDToolBox is needed to
change drive names.

According to the Am!gados manual RELABEL changes Volume names. RELABEL is
not available from the WorkBench you can use RENAME to change Volumen
names.

What was asked for was a way to change a DRIVE name. RELABEL will not
change a drive name, HDToolBox does.
I realize the Relabel/Rename difference but since 2.x I almost exclusively
use the WB menu for volume names.

Right he wanted to change the drive name from dh0{56MB} or something like
that. I recognized it as a GVP label default. If you only have the single
drive GVP gives the drive device of DH0: and puts the size of it in the
label as well as the device name. It seems that WB2.xx decides whether to
use Relabel or Rename after the user chooses Rename from the ICON menu.

RENAME changes filenames, volumn names are changed via RELABEL.

Rename from the WB for either, but what was asked for was a way to change
the drive name not the volume name.

and if you use Worbench 2.xx to do it you choose Rename from the ICON menu
and it calls the correct ADOS command.

HDToolBox will allow you to change the device names. Just be careful when
using that program as any other changes that you make might cause a total
loss of data on the drive.
