So if I understand you correctly, COREL is no longer producing a SCSI
interface card but is concentrating on driver support? What card\ would
you recommend then to be used with an NEC 74 and a MicroNet 44 Mb
removeable cartridge drive? The card thqat came with the MicroNet drive
won't support the CD ROM. Thanks for your help, Chris Barnes exit

That is correct. We've decided to direct our efforts into supporting as
many SCSI cards as possible for as many SCSI devices as possible. We feel
that the ASPI interface put forth by Adaptec is a good, solid standard to
go with, and therefore our aim is to provide drivers for any SCSI card that
has an ASPI driver written for it. This will give users freedom like
they've never had before; no more loading a mess of different drivers and
cards to support their various SCSI devices. SCSI will finally be doing
what it was meant to do in the first place; allow users to connect all of
their SCSI devices through _one_ card (well, up to 7 devices per card, of
course…). Naturally we are constantly adding new devices to our list;
the MicroNet 44 Mb drive you mention is not supported by us as of yet, but
I have passed along the suggestion to my engineers to see what they can do.
The Nec 74 is fully certified by us, and I would suggest the use of one of
Adaptec's 15xx line of SCSI cards, as their cards have completed
certification. Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer

Thanks for the info (and quick reply). There seems to be a concensus about
the Adaptec cards so that'll probably be our next purchase, and since we
already own Corel SCSI, we should be set on the NEC. As for the MicroNet,
I guess we'll just have to wait for that driver your're going to be working
on…<g>.

This thread has answered a lot of questions I had about SCSI. I am using an
Adaptec 1524B with a Syquest 88 MB removable drive and am very contented. I
have been thinking of getting a CDROM and now figure that a NEC drive with
Corel drivers is probably the best way to go. One question, though: do your
drivers replace the ASPIDISK and ASPI4DOS drivers from Adaptec, or do you
supply extra drivers for devices not directly supported by these?
If I buy the drivers, is there an upgrade path as you bring out new ones?
The next thing I have to do is find a dealer here in Germany!

You got it right on the second point… our drivers don't replace the ASPI
driver; they use it to communicate with other SCSI devices. Thus if other
card manufacturers provide a standard ASPI interface for their cards, we
would be able to support them as well. Currently there are several cards
on the market with ASPI drivers, and our people are busy certifying these
cards for use with our software. Thanks for the interest! If you have any
