While we are on this subject what about the NEC 74/84 drives with the adaptec 1742

The 1742 will work fine with NEC drives if you load the Adaptec ASPI Manager and an ASPI CD-ROM driver from Trantor or Corel. ASPI makes everything easy! It also gives you a choice of third party drivers for your card.
